Hi all,

I have a 98 12V 2WD Auto with a MBRP 4" and an AFE Stage 1 Pro Guard. I also have the guages. How will a #5 TST plate work with this set up?

Thanks in advance.

As long as the transmission is beefed up, it would probably be fine. Don't know how well the turbo would like it though.

I could slip my stock transmission with just a #10 in stock postion, and the starwheel was tightened up to hold the fuel back a little to help the transmission out a little.

Bare minimum, a tighter torqure convertor and modified valvebody. Need higher line pressure to prevent the clutch packs from slipping. Also, the modded VB generally have better lube flow to the O/D unit, and in park.

Look as see what I have, in my sig. Give Dave a jingle. Great guy. He won't try to ram a sale down your throat. www.gbtransmissions.com

Welcome to the TDR.

With a stock transmission a #10 would be the plate of choice. It should be relatively forgiving. If you are towing even the #10 can be rough on a transmission.

To help keep the stock transmission around longer a valve body upgrade is necessary. I would give a call to www.dieseltrans.com and see what they recommend.

No auto trucks had 215 pumps anyway, at least not from the factory :D so CA truck or not that would not make a difference.

My reply was written with a 180 pump in mind.

mrramman,

the best trans guys (i have a favorite :D ) don't have a "one size fits all" they want to know all about you, your truck, how you drive, will you tow, how much power you are making now or will be making in the future, and on, and on. they try to make these t/c's and v/b's to suit us. i answered so many questions before my build that i though the truck was getting audited. anyway, you need to try and decide how much power you are going to make and build your trans to meet those needs. Good luck with that last sentence because this (BOMB's) is like a sickness. everytime i think i am done, i do something else, there is no such thing as "done". ask a lot of questions, there are a lot of experienced people around here who have learned the hard way ($$$). i think that no matter who you go with you will be amazed at the difference a correctly engineered torque converter/valve body (or more) will make even in a slightly modified truck. the power transfer is amazing. my trans and gsk are by far my favorite BOMBs.
