Im looking at doing a little upgrading in the power department  I searched the archives but could not find what I was looking for.

I would like to put in a cam plate but can't deside on which one to use. I really dont want to put in a new clutch.

1. do you think a stock clutch will hold up to a #5 (255hp/675tq)?

2. does any one know what the stock clutch is rated to hold?

Guages are on the way.

I usually don't tow more than 8K. tire size is stock. I drive 70-85 MPH on the hwy. Im also trying to factor good fuel milage into the pitcure. currently getting 20+ (empty).

thanks in advance for the sugestions/info :)

I also have a 1995, I already put in the injectors and slid the stock plate forward, made a big difference, but would like a little more, so I'm also looking into a TST #5 plate, but I'm unsure. Any input would be great.

TST

When I had mine done (also '95), the manufacturer recommended only the #6 plate. But mine is an auto, so that may make a difference.

If you're looking for a moderate power increase while at the same time preserving your clutch,go with the #6. It was my first bomb and I like it. The clutch slipped a couple times when I first got on it with the #6, but its been fine for over 40k miles now. You shouldn't have any EGT problems with the #6 while towing either. Add Pier's GSK and you'll have a better than new truck. Good luck with it.

Illflem, isnt the #10 (330hp/750tq) for a '96-'98 model. eather way I think I would slip a clutch with that much power.

I added one of these plates before to a '97 I had. I think it was a #12. It seemed to work good. never slipped the clutch.

I thought I might just go a little more hp this time. Im leaning to the #6 to be safe.

Tom,

The affect of the plate depends on which pump you put it in. Putting a #5 in a 215 HP pump is not recommended because it supposed to be too much. However, in the 160 HP pump in the '94 and '95 it is rated at 255 HP. In general, the lower the number of the plate the more fuel it delivers. So in a '95 the #10 plate will deliver less HP than the #5.
