I just installed the TST cam plate, 3000 GSK and AFC spring kit. Now I can't get the truck started. When I turn the key from off to run, the fuel shutoff silenoid does not move. I can move the lever by hand and then in stays in place until I turn the key to off. Either way, the truck won't start.

Please help.

Thanks,

Jeff

If I had to guess, I'd say you may have disconnected something during the install that didn't get re-connected. Doublecheck all the wiring in the areas you were working. Of course it's possible something took a crap at the exact same time you did this.

Might be the shutoff solenoid or the relay that controls it.

Isn't the shutoff solenoid supposed to raise even higher than the run position for starting? Maybe somebody else can help out here.

Good luck with it, keep us posted

I have a correction, When I turn the engine over, the Fuel shutoff silenoid appears to be opperating properly. The TST instructions were a little misleading. However, the truck still won't start.

Help,

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff

I know this sounds silly but have you tried giving it a little throttle? These things usually start so easy sometimes one doesn't think of it. If changing the gov springs lowered the idle it may need just a touch of throttle to start. That's the only thing I can think of you should have changed that might effect starting.

No suggestion it too silly at this point. I have tried giving it gas but, it has not helped. Still looking for suggestions.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

Did you go in from the side or the top for the GSK? I went in through the top and ended up having exactly the opposite problem as you. Mine wouldn't shut down for about 10 seconds after I turned the key off. I had bent the lever to the fuel shutdown solenoid just enough that the solenoid didn't touch it right away. Maybe something along those lines?

One more thing to check, did you remove the lever from the side of the pump which the solenoid hooks to? If so make sure the woodruff key didn't fall out, I hate to admit it but I did this once at 2am and if it wasn't for Piers having one in his pocket we would still be there trying to fix it.

The first one of these plates I put in, I had the same problem. What happened to me was when I bent the solenoid to the side, I bent the arm coming out of the solenoid just enough it wouldn't pull all the way up and engage. Take the solenoid all the way off and inspect the arm that comes down. You can straighten it right back out and it'll be fine. When ever I put one in now, I always just take the solenoid all the way out so I don't have to worry about it. It's only two extra screws.

I am able to open the injectors and bleed out fuel so I am assuming that the problem is not with the fuel shutoff silenoid.

I also loosened to fuel bleed off screw on top of the fuel filter housing to try to purge air from the system. Any other thoughts?

Jeff

Well! Maybe air in the system then. Air will compress instead of the fuel building enough pressure to pop off the injector. If you crack open a line and fuel spills, this does indicate to me the solenoid is opening, but even a little air in the lines could still keep it from running . Question is, how would you have gotten air just doing the things you did? Mmmm... .

I don't know if this could be it or not. After I put my plate and AFC spring in, my truck had to crank over a few times before it would start, where before it would start instantly. I also had low power just off idle. Someone here told me to turn the screw that is under the stamped steel cover on the back of the AFC housing in two turns to give it more fuel. I ended up at three turns to get an instant start and good power off of idle. I'm not sure that this could cause a no start condition though. Might be worth a try.
