Ok we know that both have there ability to make more power but the question is who makes the best for all around performance. :-{}

This is a subjective question, in that each appeals to different numbers of people. If someone is only interested in a mild upgrade, the edge would be the best, but if someone wants more power than he can use with stock components and intends to upgrade those later, the TST would be the best. It comes down to making an honest, to yourself, evaluation of what you want out of the truck. There are enough dyno numbers out there to make a decision, on how much power you want to end up with. Then you can decide which box would be better for what you want it for.

i have the TST and love the power. i am however, in the process of upgrading the turbo because of lack of control of the right foot. :{

i figured i would be upgrading anyway, just not this soon. not sure what mods are inevitable with the edge box. the current discussion is about when they will finally make there 04. 0 & 04. 5 compatible boxes available.

marc, since you live close to me, i would be glad to give you a ride in the truck, once i get it back together. you will be able to experience what the TST box can do.

Just likr the simplicity of the Edge. If something goes wrong i can pull it real "EZ" and take it to the dealer

I think he is talking about the edge juice not the EZ!!! If he was talking about the ez YOU CANT EVEN COMPARE THE TWO THE TST IS THE BOMB... ..... :p

That may be but he didn't specify. I assumed the EZ was the box in question because the Juice is not yet available. If he were in fact speaking of the EZ however.....

lil Red Thanks for the offer. I already have the Tst on my 04. 5 but was looking at the edge for more. But I have to get the fuel system right first. It is bad enough to get this thing to pull past level 4 And keep enough fuel to it. Thanks for the invite though. Marc

I have the TST now and love it. I'm looking at staking with an Edge. I'm way past level 4, like comfortably at 7/7, stock turbo. Having some mild temp issues. (twins are coming, the CFO ok'd it. LOL) Couldn't run 7/7 in the 1/4mile because of temps. But could do the 1/8mile. I have the new program from TST. I don't know how much of a difference there is. They said the original program kinda maxed out in the 7's. And the new one has more adjustability in it. Meaning there's now a difference in power from 7-8-9. Where as before 7-8-9 were all the same. Thoughts?

I tried the Edge, then the TST. Then I stacked them. My favorite combination is the Edge on Level 3 and TST on 5/8. I'm using the TST boost elbow and stock turbo. I had it on the Dyno the other day but couldn't get the tires to stick. I saw 395hp and 752tq with the EZ on 3 and TST on 5/5. I can make quite a bit more torque on 5/8 judging by the SOP meter and the dual black strips, but I couldn't keep the tires stuck. :(

How much smoke is there daily driving with the tst & edge stacked? I live in CA and am concerned about smoke levels and getting pulled over. Did you temps go down after you stacked them? I asked these questions in another thread and no answer.

I saw your question in the other thread and meant to reply... whoops. The EGTs went down nearly 200 degrees on my truck with the stack vs. the TST alone. With my EZ on 3 and TST on 5/5, I barely make any smoke at all, just a little haze. If I turn the TST on something crazy like 7/7, I get a ton of black smoke because the stock turbocharger just can't flow enough air.

On the other hand, I think the highest recommended TST setting with the EZ on 3 and a stock turbo would be something like 2/2, but I've run 4/4, 5/5, and even 5/8 without any problem using an airraid intake, 5" exhaust, and most importantly the TST boost elbow. I tried the EZ boost elbow with them stacked and that was a BIG mistake. The boost with the stock turbo hit 50psi. I quickly changed it out and with the TST elbow it stays under 35.

Hope this helps!

Quick question on the TST if I may. Does it increase rail pressure or is it strictly a timing and duration box?

Thanks

Cool thanks for the reply. Still not sure about this boost elbow thing. I didn't even know about it until about 2 weeks ago. Had another member mail me an extra one. It's sitting here on my desk. Don't have clue were it goes. It's the one from Edge. I don't know what year your truck is, mines an '04. I looked and didn't see anything that resembles were it might go. Thanks for the smoke answer. I'm on of the few that could care less about smoke. Like I said, it's CA and I just want to play it safe. I'm digging the 200º drop. I'm anxious to see what it does.

TST is timing, it doesn't raise rail pressure.

yycguy -- Edge EZ raises rail pressure. TST does not -- it advances timing and increases pulse duration and does not affect the pilot injection.

driverno8 -- The boost elbow goes on the front of the turbo. If you remove the air intake elbow from the front of the elbow you'll see it plain as day right underneath. Just make sure with the TST box that you use the boost elbow that comes with the TST box. I used an EZ elbow with the TST box the first day I installed it and the boost was way too high for the stock turbo.

I voted EZ only because I wouldn't have the self control to stay out of the upper TST settings. However I have neither and went with the VA pressure box. It's nice having 3 settings adjustable on the fly, stays off most of the time, see's level 2 for towing and level 3 for passing. Never a check engine lamp.

Since level 3 is only 660 lbs on my SO I don't have to stress blowing other stuff.

Not sure about the performance attributes but EDGE has the BEST customer service in the entire after market diesel industry IMO. My dealing with them has been pleasent Ive never heard any thing bad and I cant count how many times Ive seen incidents where edge has went above and beyond to serve there customers post sales.

PATRIOT_Ram,

Thanks for the info, I have had the Edge EZ and the Dr Performance Predator box and the performance was good but I am nervous about the high rail pressures. I also noticed that the Edge EZ made my idle a little loader as well. The Dr Performance actually quieted it down, but the Predator made me the most nervous because of the hi rail pressures.

So any negative aspects of the TST?

I was waiting for the Edge Juice but since I have a 04 that will probably never happen :(

DieselMinded -- I'm not going to argue with you one bit. Edge has a VERY good reputation for both quality and customer service. TST has just as good of a reputation. (more reason to stack them!)

yycguy -- The only thing with the TST is quite a few people have noticed an occasional single "miss". I have it about once every 150 miles and it's always right at 1100 rpm. TST wouldn't have released it with the miss, but sooo many people hounded them to release it becuase it's the only box in it's class on the market. The only other aspect of the TST that you should be cautioned with is the amount of power. It's not a "negative" aspect so to speak, but know that if you turn it up on the high settings, you'll get hot fast and likely blow the turbo as well as slip clutches whether it be a manual clutch or inside the auto. Nothing a few other upgrades can't fix though. :)

Overall, both boxes are good. I've run them both alone and stacked. The TST is far more powerful. The Edge has four levels with a fifth "hidden" level. Level five in my opinion exceeds safe rail pressure. I ran it for a while with no problem and it was all the power my stock clutch could hold, but I feared blowing the pop-off valve that others had due to the high pressure. It seems like level 5 on the Edge runs just shy of 30,000 psi on the rail and gives 80 horse rather than the 70 that you get from level 4.

If you don't want to replace your clutch or upgrade the auto transmission, go with either box. I wouldn't run the Edge EZ above level 4. With the TST, stay at 4/4 or less. I upgraded my clutch a couple weeks ago but don't have a pusher pump or anything more than the stock turbo. With my combination I get max power with the Edge on level 3 and the TST on 5/8. This is more than enough to blow the turbo and I know I'm driving on borrowed time. :)

I tried to Dyno my truck last week with the EZ on 3 and the TST on 5/8, but I kept spinning the tires. Even pulling the rear end down hard with 4 guys in the back didn't stop the tires from spinning. Here are the results I got on the lower levels. The stock level was with no power upgrades, but with an airraid intake and 5" exhaust:

Configuration Max HP Max TQ

--------------------------------------------------------------

Stock 245 452

Edge EZ (Level 3) 278 543

Edge EZ (Level 3) + TST PMCR (5/5) 395 750

I figure with the TST on 5/8 it's making somewhere around 875 torque, but I cannot keep it on the dyno wheel. :( I don't have a scanner hooked up right now, but the max torque on all levels was between 2100 and 2300 rpm. The HP on all levels was a smooth incline through the torque curve peaking at about 2900 rpm. I was surprised that the curve didn't change much. These numbers seem low for this config, but remember -- I couldn't turn the box up all the way and I'm still running the stock turbo. :) Have fun and don't forget the gauges!!
