I have both... as soon as I get my transmission it's BOMBS AWAY! Which one would you choose? If I ad nothing else to the mix, which one would you choose? I have access to a SuperChips tuner... I also have access to an Edge EZ, possible stack? I've heard it's hard to beat the PM3/SMARTY stack, but the funds are a little short for that right now (i've also heard about some "shudder" problems?). Later down the road I hope to get a SMARTY if for nothing else to have the speedo correction if I don't pick up the SuperChips. OR... ... . should I sell 'em both and get the JUICE so I don't have to buy seperate gauges??? Truck is an 02 QC/LB/4X4 non-HO with auto and will aslo be getting a fuel system up-grade, 5" exhaust, intake, and turbo up-grade... . gimme all your opnions-good,bad,or ugly... THANKS!!!

TST will fuel harder compared to the comp, you can get the tst with gauges too you know. The juice is another option. I personally don't really like changing the timing so I would say Tst and then smarty along with it when the money is there.

Everyone on here these days seems to forget about the BlueChip fueling boxes such as the APB, FMS or the badest box on the planet..... the Redline. I made an even 100 hp with my apb... I like it b/c all there is, is a little knob in the dash and it only cost me 300 bucks. Most dont even know what it is when they see it. The FMS and redline have a pyro and boost gauge built in as well as a low fuel press light.

For fueling I would go in this order as the best/agressive to the least..... redline, tst comp, FMS, drag comp, tst, comp, apb. For timing..... I would say smarty, VA, ez. How/if you combine them is really up to you. Obviously the comp/drag comp do timing as well or you could not tap the pump wire and run them as an ez. A set of gauges will run you about 350 all said and done maybe a little more if you get four instead of three. So subtract or add that to the relative prices if they do/dont have gauges. Just my opinion... .....

Yep, James is right. TST Comp w/gauges and then add Smarty. If your TST doesn't already have gauges you can upgrade to the remote w/gauges. Sell the Edge Comp to finance the remote w/gauges!

Is the transmission stock on this thing? If so the TST will be more than it can handle.

Do not recommend Superchips. Cheaper than Smarty but not nearly the product.

Godspeed,
Trent

I am running a TST PM3/Comp stack and and have to say it does haul! Though, if I could I would get a Redline box, but funds aren't that long right now... Smarty is also an awesome option. After running this stack, I would have to say it would overwelm your auto.

Right... I know that's why all these goodies are just sitting here WAITING to be installed. Stock transmission is fine now I don't see a reason in doing any damage to it. I'm just waiting till the transmission is built to handle it all. I did know I could get the TST guages but if I am correct it doesn't have the F/P guage, which is really the only reason I would consider the Juice. Since I already have ready and waithin now the Comp and the PM3 I would like to work with them. I don't really want to drop the dime for the Redline, really the only reason I wouldn't go w/ one or the other would be to sell them and get the Juice. I just thought if I went that route I would get the box, guages, and maybe even have a buck left over... . decisions, decisions... :)

You are on the right track here.....

1. ] Gauges

2. ] transmission upgrade

3. ] Fass or Airdog

I would use the TST if you are looking to get the biggest numbers on the dyno..... they seem to pull better numbers than a comp. Sell the comp & get a Smarty. The Juice is also a great product, but if you already have a TST... . use it. Just my $. 02

I love my ez/tst stack. soon it will be a smarty/tst stack. tst is an awesome box. just fuel no timing(in a second gen anyway). made a huge difference.

I ran a TSTcompetition/EZ stack for while, but sold them because the power of the TST was very violent. It was on or off, kind of like riding a 2 stroke. That is fine for playing around, but it annoyed me to try and leave it on while just driving. I ended up going with the edge drag comp because the transition between power on and off was much smoother, almost seamless. I honestly didn't notice a difference in max power, but never put it on a dyno either. Now that was a long time ago when i ran much smaller injectors and before i had the smarty. Now i find that i have more than enough power running the mach 4. 5's and the smarty, that i rarely (and only when wanting to really lay it down) turn on the comp box. I think the TST would be fine now because like i said the fueling box is only on when i want to kill. I would absolutely get the smarty hands down. Bite the bullet and get it now man, It is one of my favorite mods. The truck just runs so much better with it. Once you do break down and get the smarty you will kick yourself for waiting.

Between the TST Comp and the Edge Drag Comp, I would choose the Drag Comp. I have both, and for everyday driving, as well as drag racing the Edge Drag Comp has much better manners. I also run about . 24 quicker in the 1/4 mile with the Drag Comp over the TST Comp. The TST Comp has a very violent shudder on levels 5 - 9, when letting off the throttle, where the Edge doesn't. I will be stacking the TST Comp, with the Drag Comp this weekend, at a race in Redding, CA. I suspect that with the stack I will pick the . 24 back up. I also have a Redline box to try, and I will do that after this weekend, but so far I still like the Edge Drag Comp the best.

Hey PaulB, I've been eyeballing the redline box for a bit now, but don't know much about it. How do you like it? I've heard it is pretty much the top of the pile fueling box for VP powered trucks. What are you experiences with it? Any info would be great. Sorry for the hijack.....

I haven't installed it yet. I will after the race this weekend. I'll be sure to post the results. All I can say at this time, is that it's pretty... :-laf

I'll agree with you there, they kinda remind me of my Coleman power inverter/converter. Think the red would look good in my truck:D

From the web site:

The Redline Box does what no other performance box does. It takes complete control of the fuel solenoid and makes 60 more horsepower and 97 foot pounds more torque than our impressive Fuel Management System does at 2800 RPM and allows the engine to rev all the way to 4000 RPM, with NO FUEL CUTBACK! Yes better valve springs are suggested with this product. It is offered only as an “Off Road Product” and a waiver is requested from the end user.

What makes this box unique is that it completely ignores all sensors on the truck except throttle position, completely ignores the ECM ( Engine Control Module ) and ignores the computer on top of the injection pump. This means that when any of these ignored devices tries to make the truck stop running or defuel, it can't happen. This means “mad” ECMs and the like are also ignored and are not needed and can't offer any benefit. Because the truck's fuel system can't cut back fuel, as it does with the ECM running the truck, the Redline is in complete control of fueling and therefore delivers FULL FUELING all the way up to the user preset maximum RPM. This means we can guarantee to empty the rotor for each and every injection event, and therefore deliver all the fuel available to the injector.

The Redline is easy to install and connects to the same places, using the same harnesses as our best street useable product, the FMS ( Fuel Management System ) with the addition of two wires that go to the Throttle Position Sensor, AKA the APPS ( Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor ). In fact our FMS can be modified to become a Redline; call for pricing.

The Redline Box offers push button menu control of all its features. The operator can preset the percentage of full fueling desired, the maximum RPM allowed, from 3200 to 4000, in 100 RPM increments. The Redline also has a “Maximum Values” menu option which allows the user to see the highest RPMs, Exhaust Gas Temperatures and Boost ( up to 55psi ) attained since last reset. This is a great way to compare and or document your last pull or drag race run. Even though it uses the truck's sensors to record these numbers, it does NOT use any of these sensors' parameters for fueling control. Other menu options allow the user to choose what is displayed on the flourescent, easy to read screen, such as RPM, amount more time than stock we are holding the fuel solenoid closed and several voltage checks for diagnostics.

One of the most significant improvements in this product is its ability to determine if the software in the box has been compromised in any way. If the software is not perfect, it won't allow enhancement or self diagnostics. This is a great insurance policy for your piece of mind while using this product.

Thanks James, I've read what the website had to say, I was just curious about user feedback. I'm pretty sure I'll never have one, seem to be only for racing and dedicated pulling, Was just curious thats all. Thanks though.

Have you (or any others) tried the smarty with the TST? Does it take away some of the shudder? I will be getting injectors some time, and possibly water/meth too... .
