aftermarket 24v valve springs?

Banks Innercooler leak.

Just got through installing the new TST PowerMaxCR R49(Twins Program, Cool Down Timer & Boost Control) and taking a test/play drive. Unfortunately Houston on Saturday afternoon is not good for testing performance mods.

It took me about an hour to remove the HOT Juice/Attitude & EZ. Everything ran through wire wrap, tied nicely and merged with the gauge stuff going in through the firewall. Took almost as long to remove as it did to make it look so pretty.

Well the cam shaft sensor is a MF. Took twenty minutes of staring and figuring out how to get short arms and big hands up there. Then my adjustable light broke  . Then after a number of attempts and every cuss word I know I got the d@m thing loose. OK now we're almost done. Plugged the factory connector into the TST connector, plugged the TST connector into the cramshaft connector, locked it and was happy. Then went to plug the crankshaft sensor in and realized I had plugged the TST crankshaft connector into the engine camshaft connector #@$%! #@$%! . Wasn't much easier to get off the second time :( . Finally done Oo. .

On to the first SOTP results. I started 6/4 setting. I now can confirm the II SPS66 wastegate is set at 50psi. Nailed 50psi on the first 3/4 throttle :D . The 6/4 feels pretty close to the HOT Juice 4/4(100hp) & EZ level 1 setting although it probably does fuel more and a little quicker. Spool up to about 12psi is still a little sluggish. I guess I will have to stack the EZ back pretty soon. 6/5 sometimes pushed the EGTs to the 1350 backdown setting just before shift to 3rd gear, but most of the sustained WOTs saw 50psi boost and 1200-1300* EGTs. I will have to play a lot with different combos in the next few weeks. I will play with the EZ stack before I get brave and install the Bully Dog Triple Dog programs. I do have the latest Crazy Larry upgrade.

The Cool Down timer works fine. I do have a question about using it with my FASS. When you select the Cool Down timer and shut the key off the engines runs but the FASS is off. Don't know if it will matter in an idle cool down mode to have the injection pump pulling its own fuel through the FASS for 2-3 minutes or not.

I have not thrown any codes so far and that is a good thing. Did not seem to have any surging for the 45 minutes of playing and driving and that is a good thing also. So far I am happy with the R49, time and the drag strip will tell if it gets me closer to the 12s without drugs.

BTW I just turned off the Boost Control feature per Mark at TST. I did not do the wastegate mod that comes with the TST for 600s. II SPS66 manual wastegate seems to do it job fine. Went to 50psi and never over. Display on the TST remote only goes to 40psi as stated in the instructions.

I will post when I get more open road and time to play some more.

Maybe you could wire your FASS to the same circuit that is keeping the truck running during cool down??

Why is that?. . I am guessing due to the MAP's limits.

From what I have read and been told by the performance manufacturers that is an electronic limit of the sensor and voltage. At least the TST instructions tell you that. It is amazing how quick the SPS66 goes from about 12psi to 50spi. About as fast as the needle can climb.

The FASS was wired to the factory wiring harness for the relay controls. Have to talk with Michael and see how to go about rewiring. Not sure it is a problem, but I will do some more research.

... . and has that research brought up any more info on this? I've got an '06, a FASS and a TST R49 on the way! Oo.

Well I know it sounds dumb  , but I still don't know definately whether the FASS is running while the TST Cool Down timer is active. I can't tell by sound or hand on the pump even any difference when normal idling or TST Cool Down time on. I do know that it works great. I use the Cool Down timer a lot, with no issues so far. I know it is only a minute or so, but makes you feel like your really saving time and taking care of the truck.

One day when there is nothing left to do I will tap the wiring with a volt meter and find out for sure. Until then everything is working fine. Even if it is not running and the CP3 is pulling fuel for a minute or two at idle I don't think it would hurt anything. I suspect it would just be the same as FASS bypass mode, fuel still filtered just not pumped.

BTW, One thing to note is that when I activate the TST Cool Down Timer and lock the truck with the remote the doors lock, but it does not set the alarm like normal. This is something I will have to check into, so there are some places that I want the doors locked and the alarm on.

Is the R-49 remote the one with the digital readings or is it the one that has the hp and tq settings alone? Do u have 2 get the digital 2 get the max egt setting and cool down timer?

The R49 is the only one I have owned, but the R49 Remote looks basically the same as the previous TST Remotes I have seen. There are different menus that are used to program the Turbo Cool Down Timer and MAX Boost defueling that I believe is what is new. There is also a different wiring harness for the R49, has an additional fuse tap and uses a couple of different fuses to tap.

There are pictures of the Remote display on the TST website. The R49 and R47 use the same Remote looks like to me.

EDIT: The PDF Instructions for the 2006 Cummins for the TST PowerMaxCR shows the R49 programming and screens. And it looks like the wiring harness for the 2006 are different than my 04. 5 600 also.

The 06's dont have individual (or 1 plug for 2 injectors) injector plugs like the 03-05 trucks, its 2 long slim plugs now.

Well still not sure whether the FASS is running during TST cool down period, but been using it everyday for the last 6 months with no problems.

I had a problem with the FASS and the turbo cool down but TST helped me figure it out. Plugging the fass into a fuse will fry the timing harness. How TST told me to do it was to bend the 87 pin on the fuel pemp relay and hook the FASS to it.

Now I have heard that FASS Has changed its method of wire From one hot wire to a relay set up, but I may be mistaken.

so far hooking it up to the relay is a good way. At start up the FASS runs with the wait to start light and then turns off. doesn't run when the key is turned to the radio option. Just how I like it.

Ok, I finally got around to powering the electric fuel pressure gauge externally to see what was going on during the TST R49 Turbo Cool Down period. I was very happy to see the fuel pressure gauge did not flinch when I set the cool down timer and turned off the key. The FASS ran and maintained full fuel pressure until the engine shut down. Thanks Michael @ HotRodDiesels.com for a great install.
