Since this thread was recently resurrected, I may as well ask. I'm also thinking about getting TST #6 as well on a 95 stock automatic. Some of the comments above worry me though. I thought it would be ok, because TST says on their website: "TST recommends no other changes to the vehicle when using its Power Kits to take 6BT5.9 engines to 230 horsepower and 605 pound feet ..." and "TSTrecommends NOT exceeding 230 HP and 605 lb.-ft. on '94/'95 Ram automatics, 250 hp and 635 lb-ft on '96/'98 Ram automatics, 270 hp and 675 lb-ft on '94/'95 manuals, or 280 hp and 685 lb-ft on '96/'98 manuals. These limits are based on clutch slippage on both automatics and manual transmission vehicles. TST torque converters, valve body kits, clutches, and transmission parts are available which raise these limits substantially."

So they make it sound like it would not be dangerous to my transmission to go to 230hp/605lb-ft, but some commenters above evidently disagree. Is there any new information or consensus from the last few years?

Man of constant sorrow: what TST has listed is very much true.

It'll be more the current condition of the transmission that you have.

My friend has a 1998 with I think a #8 in his. That gave him 235 hp and 650 tq at the tires on a dyno.

His brother with a 1995 I think uses a #5 or a 6. He has the same power as his brother on the same dyno.

Both trucks are set at close to TST's recommened settings.

The guy with the 1995 wanted the same power as his brother's 1998 so he took a chance with the 235 hp and 650 tq.

The 1995 did have a couple of blown torque converters while the 1998 went for years without a failure.

Just a few years ago, my friend with the 1998 wanted more, so he had me go all out on the pump.

So I gave him a #0. Killed the trans.

The 1998 was about $7,000 as the whole transmission had to be replaced due to what I think torque flexing of the case causing cracking.

I've never tried a 230/605, but I've heard people having decent luck with them.

For what it's worth the old engine house (19,000 pounds) came factory rated at 230/605 on the B5.9...but it also came with an Allison.
