I'm not sure about the electronic wastegates of 04. 5 and up but with the older ones the stock elbow will give your turbo better chances if surviving the high settings.

With the TST elbow, my turbo makes 4psi more boost at 0/0, and it seems to spool with less throttle.

Is it possible that the higher rpm of the turbine lessens the stress the additional fueling provides as boost ramps up?

Oh, man, my clutch is hating life. It now slips on 2/2 w/ no BDDL...

I don't think this is correct. What will really help your turbo live harsh fueling is an unrestricted wastegate. When I was pushing by stock turbo I could make 34 psi boost with the wategate full open, stock elbow. What this tells me is that the wastegate even being full open couldn't flow enough air to keep the turbine rpm down. If I tried the same thing with the TST elbow it would easly spike to over 40 psi. Anything at or above 40 psi is nearing the death of a stock turbo.

So what is the point of the boost elbow? Is it to lower egt's at lower throttle/box settings?

I'm not going to be able to find out what the limits of my stock turbo are. My clutch won't even hold 3x3 now over 3rd gear. And UPS is almost here with my SPS66...

That's what I thought. I know from my 2nd gen truck, any modification to the boost elbow, resulted in more boost. It cut back exhaust flow to the wastegate. I probably won't even do the wastegate mod with the TST. I understand the limitations of the stock turbo, so I'll just keep the box turned down untill I get a bigger turbo.

JCleary, the wastegate mod "should" lower egts by making more boost, but the stock turbo is so small, there is not much more boost left in it before it goes off it's efficientcy map and just creates more heat.

My understanding is without the wastegate modification on the electronic wastegate trucks, since you're fooling the ECM, the electronic wastegate would probably be fooled also, which could allow overspeeding the turbo. That was what I could gather anyhow...

My box is getting shipped off tomorrow for a program update and the twins program. *big smile* I'll let you guys know how well my SPS66 likes the change.

I'll look forward to your update. My SPS 66 should be here in a day or two :D

So what is the point of the boost elbow? Is it to lower egt's at lower throttle/box settings?

The point of their elbow is to lower egt's by increasing boost. It does do this. If you are running setting 2:2 with a stock elbow you'll probably see around (I'm picking numbers from the sky here) 27 psi boost, wiht the TST elbow that would be higher, say 30 psi boost. You'll have lower egt's with their elbow.

The problem is when you start pushing it really hard. Settings above 5:5 the TST elbow become too much a restriction to the wastegate and allows boost to spike up before the wastegate has time to open. These boost spikes into the 40 psi range are an overspeed condition happening to your turbo and as long as that is happening your turbo's days are numbered.

If you had to do it over, which program would you go with? My truck is currently stock, but I want a box that I can grow into. I see people complain about the fact that the standard program doesn't start fueling until 12psi. Is the twins program that much stronger on the bottom end? I'm looking for some feedback before I buy. It's between the TST and the Hot Juice. My brother-in-law is running the Hot Juice, and I've got to say, it feels strong, smooth, and so far no problems. Help me pick! :{

I second the thought of stock turbo - use the regular program...

Any aftermarket turbo, I would say either one, I liked the regular program - but the twins program is soooooo much more fun, I run 6-2 most of the time, 6-5 when I want to spool fast (though it is a bit smokey ;) )

Was it just too aggressive on the bottom? Even on settings below 4/4? I guess I just don't want it to feel "lazy" on the bottom. I got used to my 02 with a catcher.

3x2 twins box will spank the standard box on 6x6, though every day driving, i run the box on 1x1 or 0x0 ;)

I have the regular program and ended up stacking with the BDDL to get some low end. You have an auto, so I don't think it will be such a big deal for you to go with the standard program.

I wish I had the twins flash. I'll get it done when I get the SPS66 installed.

I'll trade you my twins for your regular box!I don't like the twins program that much and wished I had my old one back!
