Where can I get a genuine Cummins part w/o feeling like I was raped?
I was at the local cumming dealer and the gasket was 3. 00-4. 00 but they wanted "$15. 00 for shipping"
WTF!!!
Eric

edit: 1998 12 valve

Any big truck shop with the "C" sign out front should have it. Just have your engine number with you and mention "freightliner" or "FL60" and they wont look at you so funny.

For something as simple as a T-stat gasket I'd just go to the local autoparts store.

I just replaced my thermostat awhile back. I bought it from the Cummins dealer and they charge me 50 cents each for both o-ring gaskets.

I know the CPL but they wanted the serial number.

Does anyone know the cummins part number?

Trying to get the fine young man behind the counter to find me the "primary filter" was I'd imagine like trying to teach Fred Flintstone how to operate this computer.

It just didnt make it to his brain.....

I quit with the T'stat filter. There was no hope for him... .

Have a seat and hear my tale: You probably know our trucks have 2 gaskets - a double profile that goes under the tstat and into the lift bracket mounted on the block, and a square cut o-ring that goes over the tstat. I have not ever successfully obtained that seating o-ring and have just cleaned up, silicone lubed and reused the old one. The square cut o-ring can be obtained from most parts supply houses (they refuse to admit the other one exists—might be in the service manual but not their inventory). BUT they also want to sell you a witch-hat (no offense to practitioners of the gentle wiccan faith) rather than a top-hat thermostat. The former are temp/pressure style rather than temp only so I have always been reluctant to use them. So…each time its been a Cummins t-stat and reuse the lower gasket.

Thanks, I didnt know that.
I have a slight weep out of the top of the WP housing. It's been so slight that it dont even use AF, just leaves a minute mist covering in the area.
I wouldnt even have known it but for one time I had the hood opened just after shutting her down and spotted very small bubbles perculating from between the mating surfaces.
I should probibally leave well enough alone but it bothers me and makes me think it's gonna go at the worst time. (My luck)

In Dec of 09 I paid 3. 48 for the seal (3925466) and 7. 55 for the gasket (3927305) which I did notice came with two which was a good thing because I messed the first one up. If you want I can get what you need and send them to you and not rape you on the shipping cost.

I got a good t-Stat and both seals at CarQuest... think it was $15 for all three pieces. I think I still have the part numbers if ya need em
