trailer brakes

awhile ago I backed into (and slightly over) a Dodge Neon and the TT bumber mounted spare tire was the point of impact. Slight damage to the bumper only putting a kink in it dead center.

Given 6 inches of clearance for each end of the bumper the center now has about 2 inches. Been thinking about cutting out the kinked section and installing a slightly larger square tube as a replacement for the center section. After sliding the new piece over the exisitng ends having the new section welded on.

Pros/cons, or other ideas from this vast audience?

On mine the square tube is welded on the end of the frame rails. If yours is that way then you might was well have the whole thing replaced. My spare bolts on with a bracket the fits the existing square tube. If yours is that way then it won't fit over a larger one. You are probably stuck with replacing the whole bumper.

thanks Joe...

yep, sounds like the same set up and the "replace the whole things" seems to be the popular vote. . another thought was to have a generator rack welded up to replace kinked bit.

my water tank is under the bed in the rear of the TT and is never filled while I travel so I'm not too concerned about the generator weight on the back.
