Single axle spring flip help

3500 tow -haul capacities ?

I need to put a new set of tires on my TT. I've got a set of Carlyles on now, and Im not sure Im pleased with the mileage they are giving me. They only have about 8-10k on the tires, and Im not comfortable with the tread that is left for a trip up to Alaska Im taking next month.

Has anybody had experience with this brand ? (its what they are selling at my local Discount Tire Service). What about a brand called Tow Max (what they are selling at Les Schwab tires).

Thanks,

TRat

I like the Towmasters from Greenball. I had Big O Tires order them for me. Les Schwab may say they have them, but you have to watch because they will switch brands on you. Carlyles don't have a very good track record.

Thanks Blu-meanie. Id never heard of Towmaster. But after your post, I surfed around on the internet and found some good things about them, and some bad things about Carlisle. I think I may give the Towmasters a try.

check out RV.net and do a search in the TT or 5er forums and get a ton of issues folks have with Carlisle ST tires on any size trailer.

Do not, I repeat, do NOT buy Load Max. !!. . I had 6 on my 5th wheel and almost all separated in 1 to 2 years.

I replaced them all with a tire called Tow-Master... they are made in canada along side the goodyear Marathons and so far for my heavy 5th, they are doing great. . they roll pretty good and have a decent tread. They are a ST tire made for trailers.

Take the Carlisle's off, this is what happened (only 4,000 miles) to one on my TT last September. When it blew it damaged the one behind it also. I have Denman on now, knock on wood they're OK so far.....

I've had bad luck(load range C) and good (load range D)using Goodyear marathons but someone said they are made in China now,so I think Michelin XPS ribs will be my next set. Whatever tire you decide on having them balanced will pay you dividends.

I guess that the light Carlisles come stock on some TT's and fivers - I now have new Carlisles front and rear on my trailer - however - I have the E-rated tires... pretty pleased with them so far.

I think sizing the tire for the load is important and these E-rated tires seem to be substantial - I don't expect any problems. I've run them hot and fast on some rough Texas state highways and they're holding up well. They darn sure aren't cheap!

Good info here... ... . I just pulled my boat out of the barn last week and realized the Goodyear marathons were 12 years old.

Went to the local dealer and priced new ones... ..... will not buy if made in china

Then what???

Is that a Truck Tire or a Trailer Service Tire?

ST tires are junk and do not have to meet any government standards, and are only rated to 65MPH.

The XPS RIB is a commerial truck tire that Michelin recommends for heavy duty trailer use. It is an all steel ply tire. They roll easy and run cool. SNOKING

Thanks, I will consider that when I get a 5er.

we toured the HitchHiker II plant last summer and noticed they are using 16" Uniroyal Laredo HD-H LT E tires on their 5ers. HH II's are a heavy trailer. Our tour guide said HH II won't be using ST tires anymore as they had to many issues with the STs during the first year of use. I use 16" BFG Commercial LT E on all my trailers even the 5er. My neighbor lady is a longhauler/hotshot and uses the BFG Commercials on her truck and all three of her trailers. Michelin is the parent company of BFG and Uniroyal.
