19.5 Tire discussion

One of the most unusual GatorMade builds I’ve hauled.....

I need a new water pump for my Salem 32bhds. I just decided to replace it, and was wondering if anybody has a favorite manufacturer that they trust. I wasn't going to replace it until the spring, but the wife and I have both had covid, and now we're ready to get out of town and migrate to warmer weather soon. Need to get the pump squared away 1st though. Thanks for rhe help.

Looks like Freshwatersystems.com has the Remco pumps in stock. In Stock should be part of your criteria for getting a pump now as I had to wait for mine to come off backorder. Low flow use, like rinsing the dishes, I like the variable speed. But I have not used it enough to comment otherwise.

Thanks for that.

Some general thoughts:

1). Bigger than you need.
2). Plus expansion tank.

Have not said, “Buy this one”. Work down from here, just not too far.

— The propane system is (literally) the answer to, “what is a camper” (any type).

— But it’s the water system which makes camping this manner the pleasure that it is.

Electrical System is what gets gold-plated and yet IS NOT necessary EXCEPT to power furnace fan.

Go over the whole of the water system. Consider adding filters if you haven’t (built-in). Make sure drain valves are “great”, etc. Survey entire system.

Water is what destroys RV campers. Roof separation and plumbing leaks or breaks. With the exception of behind-wall electrical junctions, nothing else is as destructive (what totals an RV).

Water pump makes or breaks all else in that system, IMO. (Duty-Cycle considerations). Wanting a constant-flow water heater? Outdoor shower to wash things not just people? Wash dishes while kids take shower? Adding a washer/dryer or dishwasher (which, ironically, uses less water than by hand-washing). Transferring water from camper to another, exterior storage tank? (Do you carry a water pump mounted for portable use?).

The more people, the greater the demand. The unusual circumstances of fate also play in.

Water storage capacity is the limiting factor to, how many days without resupply for X-people in Y-circumstances.

A propane system has portable lightweight bottles to be filled.

The RV itself has to be moved for water re-supply. Consider how you’d do it otherwise; filter, treat, exchange the camper fresh water tank contents. Etc

I’m trying to say it’s not hard to imagine that which would overtax a minimal-spec pump.

So you are still using the foot pedal to pump water? :p

Seriously the RV's wires, switches, fuse, and controller (if equipped say for a second remote water pump on/off switch) need to be checked and upgraded as needed for a larger water pump. Switches in the wall are a project to upgrade the wires (or use a relay that takes power to stay 'on'). More GPM means more current draw. Easy Button is to make sure the new pump is the same or less amps as the old pump.

I don't go camping to stand around washing dishes. Paper plates reduce the amount... The only thing the Going RVing (infomercial labeled as a show and nothing better on at the moment) has made me aware of is the RV Dishwasher. Been looking at counter space, built in, etc. for getting one in my RV since.

Lose electric juice and that foot pedal is a winner. Would be a retrofit for me. I think it’d be worth it.

No real workaround for furnace fan. Catalyst burners are nice, just don’t “spread” the heat, so that’s a stopgap.

What’s the most & least if you lose a system?
The questions to ask which would end a camping trip.

Nice points about switch gear, etc. Thx

Re the dishwasher it was a thread on AIR where a family of nine in a highly (beautifully) modified 32’ Airstream extolled the built-in dishwasher virtues: it was also storage for the table & flat-ware.
