What a Great Time We Had in Tulsa

Ore.Willamette Valley Chapter Meeting

I would like to say a special thank you to Bruce Reynolds for organizing the meeting at Tulsa today (Jan. 29, 2000). I think he is a little too modest in the effort he put forth in it. I had the pleasure of sitting directly across the table from Chip of Blue Chip Diesel Performance (lots of good info from him). That truck of his is awesome huh guys? I am glad I didn't let the weather keep me away. Thanks again Bruce.

Amen, Tinbender.
It was a great meeting. I was really surprised at the large turnout, since the roads were so bad. Just goes to show it's hard to stop a RAMMER. Bruce did a great job on every aspect. BTW, that Blue Chip truck is down right scarry! I let my son drive the Ram on the way home so I could write down the things I wanted to remember that I learned at the meet. I also made a list of future BOMB modifications that are now in the "Got to have it" category. I stopped keeping score when the list passed $3000. Oh well... ... ... ... .

Good job, Bruce!

I totally agree. Thanks Bruce for a job well done. It was well worth the drive to Tulsa. I would also like to thank Chip for stopping to talk to us, I learned a lot from his years of experience with diesel engines. I really enjoyed meeting all of you and I hope we can do it again soon.

Okay, Now I'm really mad (actually really jealous). The snowstorm and thick fog I woke up to this morning scared me off. I didn't think I wanted to chance the roads under those conditions in a 2wd. BIG MISTAKE. I should have tried it anyway. Sounds like a good time was had by all. I've been kicking myself all day. Bruce, I've already e-mailed you on this, but thanks again for the effort you put forth in organizing this. I just wish I hadn't been such a big chicken and had made the trip. Let's do it again... soon.

Gee, guys, you make me blush. What a turnout in spite of the weather!

We had 13 trucks representing first-generation, second generation 12-valve and second generation 24-valve Rams. There were 26 people total meeting in The Diner including Don Kallenberger (Parts Manager) and Dennis Ferguson (General Manager) from Southern Plains Cummins, and of course, Chip Fisher from Blue Chip Diesel.

We had a lot of fun, shared a lot of experienced and got A LOT of questions fielded from some of the most knowledgeable folks in the business! I have a few "thank yous" myself. Our appreciation goes out to:

Larry Melton, Service Manager and co-owner of Melton Sales in Claremore, OK, for providing the huge flags we had displayed from a couple trucks that clearly marked the meeting place. He also provided a dozen cans of Mopar Diesel fuel conditionaer and a dozen large atlases which included the TripMaker CD ROM-based trip planning program.

Dennins Furguson of Cummins who provided Cummins ball caps, Performance Plus Diesel fuel conditioner and several copies of the thick ISB troubleshooting and maintenance guide. ('Wish I'd got one. Darn!)

Rob Spading, our favorite Web Master, who provided TDR shirts, Mopar bandanas, an official TDR ballcap and a really nice Dodge wristwatch.

Eric Lantz, who provided our top door prize - a heavy duty, CNC machined and engraved TDR receiver cover. (Tell the world who and what you are!)

Chip Fisher, who provided his knowledge and insights into Diesel performance.

Willy Spears, owner of The Diner, who provided us a great meeting place, and even let us “hang out” long after he’d closed shop for the day.

And, finally, to you, TDR members and interested persons who braved the snow and the cold to come together and make this meeting such a success!

I’ll try to write up a little something about what we actually DID, and try to get it posted before the day is over.

Next up: Sandia Showdown in Belen, New Mexico, on March 18th!

Hi Guys, I agree, real informative. Some info to pass along is that the parts guy and manager of Cummins Southern Plains, Tulsa was there. They said that now Cummins IS recommending a fuel additive for lubricicity of the fuel pump, at least every 3rd tank. I have never been near a really B. O. M. B. ed truck and then one started up. I don't know whos truck it was but the exhaust sounded like a jet engine. It was a white 1 ton parked net to Chips rig. Who was that masked man??? Hey Bruce,, we need to do it again!

I would like to add my thanks to Bruce for putting together a really fun event. Those that were unable to attend due to the weather "EAT YOUR HEARTS OUT, IT WAS GRRRREEEAAAT". Definatly worth the drive. Hope to make it an annual trip. Tulsa 2000 was a good start!! Grady

Ah, Lou, that masked man was Mark Kitchell from Nebraska. And you were dead on about the sound. I felt like I was back on the flight line from my Air Force days. Wasn't that cool!

New posting in a moment...

Aye, something about a 'scotty' system pushing air through a fire breathing diesel burning torque monster isn't there? I second, third, forth, etc, the THANK YOU to Bruce for being brave enough to put the mini rally together. Seems there's a bunch of us diesel heads who will grasp any excuse to get together and breath diesel fumes.

The trip there wasn't too bad, driving on all white roads is kinda fun when you can have 2 or 3 lanes all to yourself. Omaha to Tulsa in seven hours. Tested out the new stereo the whole way, sounds great but the Pioneer Electronics folks have a serious problem with their displays. The illumination gets weaker and weaker after being on for five hours or so. It also gets pretty hot (heat and weak display, probably related), I became worried it would damage my CDs, so back to the store it goes. That's three Pioneer stereos defective (two bad displays, one bad left speaker channel), time to give Alpine a go.

Wish I could remember everyone's names, I remember some but I'll just leave it at: Let's get together again soon so I can get to know you-all even better.

Great trip, beautiful country, good company, test out new gear. Life is GOOD in TurboDiesel land (and in Tulsa). #ad

Finally got back and DEFROSTED!! Now I can type a THANKU to Bruce and Pam for the REALLY Great get-2-getter. Only problem I got is that my chrome is "pitted" from the salty roads I used... ... makes me enjoy a country w/o salt (used to live OhiO/Mich).

Next Year Again!!!! What was the temp w/wind chill figured in??? -3?

Thaqnks again for the GREAT Get-2-getter --- CU in Belen !!!!!!!
