I was a big fan of Edge until today, apparently they were bought out by Holly and I have never been a fan of thier carbs. I was on the phone for hours trying to get some help pulling some more fuel fom the CTS. since I regeared from 4:10s to 3:73s it needs more fuel to get the turbo charger spooling (I dont like jumping on the gas everytime I need to move the truck) When I first got this thing they go over what was done to to the trck and email me an update. Today they "dont do that" I didnt expect them to reprogram the Edge CTS for free. but I was told by a manager Edge turners ARE NOT for trucks that are not stock and none of thier products can be changed from the factory tunes.
So question can you stack another progamable tuner with a Edge CTS Juice w/attitude? I really like all the idiot proof automatic defueling for EGT and trans slip.

If not what tuner out there is progarmmable for fuel and timing(beyond thier canned program) and has the gauges, safe guards and maintenance monitor that the Edge has?
Thanks
Kyle

Quadzilla is unsupported like a lot of other programmers and not even a decent unit anyway. About the same as the Edge, not recommended.

MM3 and custom tuning is the best solution since you are not going to get much support form the sounds of it.

I am already looking at the MM3, Talked to Chris, seemed to know his stuff but what I need is about $1500 ouch. Also the MM3 cannot change modes on the fly for the 2003-2004 (early) trucks which I will really miss. I am REALLY P1ssed at Edge, They knew what I had done to this motor when I bought it and said it would work great, yea right. Now Edge says their tunners are for "STOCK trucks", exaust and air box upgrades are ok, do any other upgrades "they are not supported".
So if you are going to do some serious upgrades dont waste your money on Edge! any one interested in a used Edge? ;)

There were at least 3 things keeping me from Smarty
1. Not adjustable on the fly like the comp
2. Was told my 99 ECM is probably on it's last legs and the Smarty could do it in.
3. Max hp was 65.
Make sure you do your research for whatever you choose.

I think the MM3 and Touch are adjustable and the POD models will even work with an Edge Insight monitor. I run a S-06 POD with the newish CTS3. I have zero desire to change levels on the fly anymore, but in slippery conditions I like the POD function. I switched from an Edge Juice with Attitude to the Smarty, so far its been great. My Edge Juice died after a few years, couldn't be repaired.

Having written tunes for myself and many others I find the adjustable on the fly isn't really as cool in practice as it sounds on paper. Typically 2 tunes are all people want/need once we chat about goals.

A tow tune and a max effort tune seems to fit the bill for nearly all people. The tow tune is designed to run safe EGT's WOT loaded under most ambient conditions, and the max effort tune is designed to run safe EGT's empty for normal WOT runs. Not much else is needed. Both are custom to the truck and the supporting mods. What is a tow tune for one truck may make more power than a max effort tune on another truck, but that's what makes them custom and unlike box tunes.

There are no safe guards on the MM3, but honestly if they are needed the tune is wrong.

There is also no PoD feature on custom tunes for the MM3.

I currently have a CTS2 and have had Touch/MM3 in the past. The CTS2 sucks compared to the MM3, but this truck is stock and under warranty so I am running a monitor only.

If you decide to go custom make sure the tunes are custom to your truck and not just labeled custom and the same generic tune that tuner gives most people.

No matter what you do I would ditch the Edge tuner. I've never heard much good about them, and they tend to run hotter than needed on CR trucks.

I agree with John. SOTF is a cool gizmo but at the end of the day it is still just cool and not real useful. Its loss would be so far down the list of important things I would not miss it.

If you are towing and load a tow tune you are not going to be embarrassing someone with a trailer on the back, other than passing them on grade to make them feel inadequate. If you have it set on kill for play mode no real reason to tow with it. If you really want that feature then upgrade and play.

The only instance I could think of that would be useful is run a mileage tune and instantly switch to kill when playing. However, the efficacy of the switching is more controlled by the hard parts than software. It is possible to tune the engine and use your right foot to achieve efficiency AND max power. Maybe not all the potential of either\or but in reality if you can afford to drive that truck then even moderate efficiency is acceptable.

Yeah, it is going to cost $$ but everything you do to enhance performance has a cost. The only question left is "How fast do you wanna go?".

well the MM3 is in and what a difference, I have the first tune in and the truck runs better than stage 6 on the Edge, juice! need to find out a way to make the numbers larger though.

I love my custom tunes. the box tunes form my edge were " more powerful" but smoked and I couldn't really use the power as the egt's went through the roof.
the custom ones I got are without a doubt perfect. I leave my truck on the max effort tune and it tows my lighter trailer under 6K without issue. and for towing heavy 13-14K I load my tow tunnel and never worry about egt's as they stay under 1000.
by far the best investment in my truck next to a built trans.

glad to see you're happy with your tunes.
