I pulled a loaded stock trailer fro the first time since installing the TST power kit, and having a full 4" exhaust installed(Minus the Critter in front of the muffler)> Power was much better, but I couldn't fully use it because EGT's got too High. I hit 1350 @2200 RPM. Backed off to 55mph, 1900 RPM and ran 1200.

This was higher than I expected.

How do I lower the EGT's??

Any free adjustments that will help this?(Since I just spent about $1000)

My first thought was turbine housing, but I'm just a diesel baby.

Total weight was 16000 lbs(Truck and Trailer)

Do the exhaust hsg and a intake filter upgrade of your choice. And call Tst or Piers and see what thay recomend for timing for that plate. Timing seems to help my egts the most. Sorry just noticed you already have a K&N filter if its in the stock air box make sure to remove the rubber snorkel that joins the air box to the inner fender. Good Luck

Good point, the little filter minder is getting sucked down to the 7-10 mark. Is this enough to indicate that the truck is not getting enough air? I'll try disconnecting the 'Snorkel Tube"

Thanks for the replies:confused:

Good point, another thought is that I noticed the filter minder was sucked down to the 7-10 mark, and the K&N was just cleaned. Is this enough to indicate the truck is starving for Air??

Also, if I could find someone to advance the timing, that should help, shouldn't it?

Thanks for the replies.

Timing should raise your fuel economy slightly and will definitely lower your egts. And I have seen some trucks were the timing has sliped.

Timing Advance

Thanks for the reply Mark

I just today found someone in my area with the tools and expertise to do the timing, so I will try that first, and consider Turbo change if necessary next. Oo.

How much boost did you have when you were 1350 degrees and 2200 rpm?

Boost was around 26 LBS. Max boost my truck will produce is 28 PSI.

I have the PDR HX35/14 and running the #11 plate and I was told that if I didnt have enough volume to fill the 16 housing... my EGT's would go up. . But if I went with the #10 plate or bigger injectors. . it would tip the scales the other way and it would cool it down. Sounds kind of strange...

I would think you should get 30 psi. Check for a boost leak. If no leaks, adjust the boost elbow to give you a little more boost. (Remove or plug the line to the waste gate to see what the maximum boost is. )

I think I'll hold off on the turbo mods until after the timing is checked/advanced. Is there any disadvantage in advancing timing to 16? Or is it better to stay a little conservative @15 or 15. 5?

I will do the block and check for max boost. I have checked for leaks, but will do it again more thoroughly.

What is max boost for maintaining head gasket safety?

Rick, I just noticed you are located in Visalia. I grew up there. Went to Golden West High. I sure don't miss the 110 degree summers. :--)
