Hello folks, I got away from this forum for a few years and now I'm back. I bought my 1992 LE 5 speed W250 back in 2007, had 149,000 on it when I got it. After many years and now 300,000 miles I had my injector pump rebuilt by Dixie Diesel in Columbia, TN. I've added a BD diesel 3200 rpm governor spring and a fuel pin. I had already turned my fuel screw a little and added 1.5 mm pump timing, I did these right after I got the ole truck. I'm adding a ATS exhaust manifold and a MBRP 4" exhaust as I'm finally tired of fighting EGT's. I've always drove by the ISSPRO pyro gauge I put in it right after getting it. I'm sure my "POP" pressure on my injectors is tired so to speak and I was looking at 2 things that I need input on. 1. DD1 (Dynamite Diesel) stage 1 injectors, I tow a lot and don't wont to kill my fuel mileage, anyone have experience with these particular injectors? 2. PDR HX35 turbo, my turbo has pretty good fore and aft movement in the shaft, time to replace. Again anyone have experience with this turbo? Consider the few upgrades that I have done, I'm not wanting a race truck, just something to pull a trailer with well. I'm also having to have new bearings and syncros installed in the "jetrag" so its also getting a Southbend clutch as I'm replacing the original. Thanks to all who respond.

I was thinking of buying the PDR HX35 and using my 16cm non waste-gated housing on it. I dunno, kinda wondering what folks thought about that.

So just a quick update, I went with Dynamite Diesel stage 2 injectors, along with that PDR HX35 turbo with a few other goodies and man I'm I pleased, turbo does a good job on cleaning up fuel smoke, i really like both of these goodies. I did quite a few upgrades at once. Special thanks goes out to Thompson Diesel in Lafayette, TN, fabulous job on my truck.

Be warned: Dixie Diesel out of Columbia, TN sucks at rebuilding injector pumps, my pump was sent to them a total of 3 times before they finally got it right.

Sorry I didnt chime in here sooner!

The PDR HX35 is pretty awesome. Acts like a smaller HX40. Also the Super HX40 Ray has is also awesome on these engines! That would be your next upgrade when this one doesnt do enough for you.

DDP 2 sticks work well in your power range. I can see why you would be happy with them. As you have your engine now should be a pretty good balance of smoke, boost, and power with still decent mpg. Something that was not mentioned in your original post that should be done at this stage if you havent, is make sure your IC boots arent too old. The boost you are starting to play with can do a number on old rubber boots. The pop sound when they go is scary. lol

Did you end up with the #16 housing? I have been looking at that turbo for my '01, they recommend a #14 for my application, over the oem 12 that I have now, on my stock HX35.

I had already put a #16 on my old turbo and reused it on this new one, I'm very satisfied with it. I'll eventually be looking at the PDR HX40 they have as I get a little hot on the egt's on a real hard full throttle run, outside of that this turbo does a pretty decent job. That housing helps keep the drive pressure down on the interstate, my Speedo recently quit, but best I can figure I'm still getting 20 mpg with this setup.

Thanks, what kind of numbers do you see at WOT, boost and EGT's? I have a #16 on my '91 that I could switch with, but am unsure if the '01 will benefit. I am pretty sure the '91 would like the 12 but....I am not very versed on turbo's so it is kind of hard to decide. I do have direct mount exhaust brakes on both trucks so I have to keep that in mind.

I run a ISSPRO egt gauge and when I'm all up in it, going through 5th gear about midway I'm hitting 1300+, i held it once and seen 1400+ cause it was still climbing, but got out of it quick as I'm not sure what kind of temp these motors can take, my '03 I had could take way more than that for 5-6 seconds, but it had coatings on piston tops and valve, etc. I really need the HX40 from PDR. Sad to say, I don't run a boost gauge and never have, I know I need to at this point, just don't like the mounting options, I've got the single steering wheel pod for my egt gauge.

The 14 would for sure be too small for you. Stop light demons can do it, but you need the larger airflow for towing.

As for the turbo, think one step up from the PDR 40. Go Super HX40 from Holset. Factory rated for 65 psi and very fast spool up. Have run mine for 5 years and I find it spools as fast as my old HX35. best part is it doesnt have a weak shaft like the regular 40. Most arent even aware of this turbo!

As for intake, I ran a 2nd gen intake horn and it works well! #ad

Hey I'm going to check into that Holset super 40, sounds exactly like I need, thank you! On the 2nd gen intake horn, ant particular year to get?

You need to watch what years, unfortunately I can't remember the good ones. I do know some have the mounting bolts inside the airflow cavity. If you look at Roberts pic you can see his bolts are more on the outside of the housing, that's what you want.
