Bark/Cough

I have 275's and a EZ also. I noticed the same sound. I read a thread about removing the silencer ring to help release the extra boost pressure created by the turbo. When you back off the throttle quickly the pressure pushes back on the pinwheel in the turbo. With out the silencer ring, the pressurized air can flow back thru the turbo reducing possible barking.

If you truly are barking your turbo, this is BAD. I killed mine after four barks in the year and a half that I had it.

Take off the filter to turbo hose and give the turbo a spin with your fingers. It should spin easily and keep spinning with a gradual slow down. If you spin it and it only goes around two or three times, the bearings are probably bad. Also look for oil (black) around the compressor housing at the input. This is not always from the oiled filter. Don't get nervous about side to side play on the turbo shaft, that is normal, so long as it does not let the compressor blades come in contact with the compressor housing.

Your alternatives are

1. Learn not to dump the throttle during/after hard accelerations - drive a little less aggressively.

2. Buy a blow off valve - $$$
I barked my HY 3 to 5 times a day for the first 2 years and the turbo was going strong when I upgraded. Go figure.
