Turbo Barking

Yesterday while under light acceleration the turbo barked or chuffed whaterver, 8 times within 30 seconds. Each time the engine lost power. Since then no problem. What could cause this? Also I have codes P2262 and P061A stored. This is about the 9th time for the 2262, but the first time for the 061A, what could that be. I had the G30 done 2 weeks ago and within the hour after having it done, the engine light was back on with the 2262. I have an appointment today to try to try to get this corrected. Any help would help.

As I see it,



Turbo bark is from YOUR driving techniques for YOUR turbo. Bark is when ther is more pressure in the compressor end than the turbine end. Typically when the throttle is let off quickly and the turbo does not have a chance to spool down some. Mine happened when the auto transmission went from 3rd shifting into O/D and the rpms would drop rapidly (correctly and naturally from the shift).



I had a too big a turbo for several years and had to watch Barking very closely. I had mine rebuilt to a faster spooling turbine end and a smaller compressor end (much better matched to the actual hp not the "desired" hp) and I have not barked it in about 3 months.



Basically turbine shaft speed / pressure generated by the turbine end vs the existing pressure that has already been generated in the compresor end now too high relative to the turbine end.

What you say is very true, but the 6. 7's have a variable geometry turbo and a intake throttle, so if there is a malfunction in any of the parts, turbo bark will happen in any condition.



It can be cause by the ECM, or a failed/failing part.



The 6. 0's do this, and the 6. 6 D-Maxs do this. Actually all VGT'd trucks can do this if there is a malfunction occuring.

The Manufacture uses all these parts for emissions reason, but I like the fact that we can be able to turn that technology around and use it to make more power, faster warms up, and more braking power...

You need a new turbo. P-2262 is a turbo code and my new turbo is going in this week after P-2262 came up twice. If your service department calls Star, they will figure out what's going on there.
