Three times when towing 10K up a long 6% grade on I-40 I have had the hose blow off the air discharge side of the turbo charger. The first time East bound the hose came nearly completely off with a loud bang and a hiss. I had the Flagstaff dealer reinstall and tighten the hose. It blew partially off that same day! This time I reinstalled it and paid special attention to keeping the hose clamp square to the hose. I had no problem until 8 months later when West bound the hose pulled loose again and I lost some power. That night I retightened the hose clamp as tight as I could. I checked it again the next night and found that I could further tighten the clamp.

The Flagstaff Dodge service manger says that this is a common Ford and Dodge problem.

Any suggestions on how to avoid this problem in the future?

use some sandpaper to roughen the surface under the hose's #ad

That will help and make sure you torque the bolts.

Try tightening them every week for awhile. I had a post earlier about the same thing, except mine were not coming off. Today I went to tighten then and they hardly moved at all. So it just takes a while to compress the rubber I guess. Do a search on IC hoses.

First of all, if you are running a K&N filter, amke sure it isn't over-oiled... This can cause IC hose problems. Second, the torquing the clamps makes no difference. You really gotta crank these things down. The newest clamps with the springs seem to be much better than the other ones on pre-2001. 5 trucks. Also, consider replacing the 3" hump hoses with silicone heater hose. I did this on mine, and not only does it look better, it is a big improvement over the stock ones. The silicone hose hardly expands at all when under boost. The stock hoses inflate like baloons when under low (20 psi) boost. You should see them at 35 psi!!! Cost to replace the hoses is like 20 bucks. Well worth it. #ad

also you can buy the ford spring clamps . . they are wider than the DC clamps
be sure to clean all the surfaces with a good thinner type cleaner, inside hoses and the tubes ...

Evan can you supply me with the silicone heater hose. . no one up here has it. . I'll send ya the money if you e-mail your address. . [if you have the parts there at your job]. . thanks if you can

Being capable of making 40+ psi of boost,I had to retighten my clamps once a week. I finally got rid of the junk rubber and went with silicone hose... way better! Now they only take about a 1/4 turn every three months.

Tighten at every oil change. They usually can be turned about a half a turn after 5k miles.
