Anyone running H2O/Alc instead of meth??

Milk does a body good (however)...

I have read and read... ...

Can someone that has experience with the PS, SPS, and HTT turbos help explaining the spool up difference. If there was any testing done on the same truck that you could help me categorize the difference in spool between say a PS62 and then say the SPS64 would spool faster... . info like that.

A friend has a 62 on a 24v and not sure if it is PS or HTT and I am trying to make a comparison with what is available and wether an upgrade to an SPS would be worth it. Do not really tow, but do drive around town quite a bit so I shouldn't have to worry about the surge.

Your sig says you are running twins with an HTB2 secondary. For comparison it would be good to know what exhaust housing you are running. I just changed from a 62/. 7 to an SPS62. The 62/. 7 spools faster than the SPS 62. A noticeable difference can be seen there. It is not such a difference as to be a problem. The other expected differences are present also. Lower drive pressure with SPS. So far I am seeing around 25 psi less drive pressure at WOT. Overall boost at WOT is down about 8 psi or so. Egt appears to be down also. I need to explore this further before I assign a number to it. I did not have any egt issues before, so I was suprised by the initial numbers. I am running a smaller primary than you so my numbers may be different than what you will see.

Thanks Ron.

I was looking to upgrade the turbo on a friends, the 24v. He has a 62 on it with the 80 housing, just not sure where it came from. I'm sure I could investigate it a little better and see. We are going to stick with the same exhaust housing to keep the drive pressures down, but I was hoping more would chime in with experiences comparing non SPS to PS and even the HTT. Say for example: He replaces the regular 62 with a SPS66..... spool would be only slightly slower warranting a change to the SPS series as opposed the the PS series. Or how about swaping from the PS62 to a SPS62... . things like this.

Let me try to simplify this... .

Would switching to an SPS over an PS turbo spool faster?

If so, what would the PS62 spool like in an SPS6x? Which turbo would spool about the same?

I think you got it backwards. As far as I know (could be wrong), the difference between the SPS and PS is in the ex housings. Or do the SPS's use a larger turbine also? So, if my assumptions are correct, a PS would spool faster than a SPS (the sps having the larger ex housing... )

No, No, Not punky... chunky! :)

The difference in the "Super Phat Shaft" vs. "Phat Shaft":

1. SPS units only come with a 14/15cm housing.

1A. The PS units can utilize a 12cm or 14/15cm housing.

2. The SPS units use a larger 70mm diameter turbine wheel.

3. The Phat Shaft units utilize a smaller 60mm diameter turbine wheel.

So which one will spool faster? The regular Phat Shaft will.

Which one will flow more? The Super Phat Shaft will.

Both types can be had in the 62, 64, 66, configuration.

Well I was kind of scared when I saw the difference in the stock turbo and the SPS 62 in the size of the exhaust side and turbo lag. Let me tell you, this turbo not only spool's just as quick as the stocker, it's smoooooth..... My 6 speed is probably way I don't really have any lag issue, but bottom line the truck it's self sounds so much happier with the SPS 62... and for what it's worth the ATS arch flow manifold is awesome too, I'm so glad that I put the two together. just my 0. 02. .
