I do like to let it idle for 3-5 minutes after towing, sometimes 5-8 depending on temps. Something I’ve noticed with my 6.7, vs my 5.9, is that even after 5 minutes the coolant might still be around 200° and the trans temps will actually come up to 175°. Must have something to do with the EGR?

This happened after towing home this weekend. Ambient temps were about 88°.

Still heading back from Columbus. We have the dog and I have started it, locked it, and let idle for a long time. In fact this morning it ran for at least 45 minutes with the dog in the cool cab while I got a couple new trailer tires. I tried to set the idle shut down a while back and it looks like it is commercial truck only feature.

It’s not commercial trucks only.

It was active on my ‘18 but a huge nuisance. 5 minute shutdowns were annoying when cooling down, unhooking a trailer, etc.

I swung by the dealership today and had them deactivate it. The tech had never heard of it, but was able to deactivate it in about 5 minutes from them pulling my truck in to handing me the keys.

Left it idling while fueling just to check it. 8 minutes and no shutdown.
