Should I trade my 5.9L for a 6.7L?

I have the P0046 and P2262 codes showing up along with P0513 and P0401. Was told that the turbo is shot and will need to be replaced which is happening Monday. Also received a message that my catalyst was full after driving 2000 miles on the interstate . This is the seventh time I have been in the shop with this truck in the last 8 weeks. I also noticed my exhaust brake is not working. Will post with results after the repair.

I wanted to give an update on my code P2262. I took the truck to the dealer this morning. Of course, the light was out before I got there. They verified the code and gave things a quick once over. Their analysis was "faulty software". They said there is an update coming in about a month.

OMG, I would be about losing it after 8 times in. As a matter of fact I would be demanding money back or another truck. 3500 miles on mine so far with no problems. "Knocking on wood".....

I know that today's vehicles are far more complicated and sophisticated than the 2nd gen 24-valve trucks, but I really don't remember there being so many "infant mortality" type of failures and issues with the older trucks back when they were new.

Is it just me, or does the overall quality of the products on initial release seem to have degraded.

I would honestly have to think twice about buying another one given the bevy of problems that I've read about.

Thoughts?

Far more complicated. More issues with 2nd generation 24 valve then 12 valve etc. I believe Carol Shelby once said that eletronic sensors will never work with the internal combustion engine. (hope I spelled his name correctly)

Just a couple of things to consider: Back when the older trucks were new, we did not have the level of communications we have today. I don't think we would have heard as much discussion then as we can do today on the internet forums like this one. That does not mean the problems were more or less than today, just today we can see what the new owner's are experiencing - almost in real time.

I certainly agree that complexity adds many more failure possibilities. For instance, I don't have 4WD, lifted truck, oversize tires, electric door locks, or power windows. I also don't have many problems with my truck... :)

P2262

mcurtis - What was the dealer's advise? Drive it as-is and wait a month for the new flash? I'm asking b/c I too have noticed the lack of boost and today pulled this code. Not sure if I should make an appointment or wait a month for new software. Ordinarily, I would just take it in, but it would be a logistic nightmare unless I take a day off from work.

I'm quite satisfied with my '01, so I might be talking out of turn here, but sounds like a sensor/computer problem rather than the actual hardware. Just like a bad MAP, O2 or ABS sensor can throw a code even when nothing else is wrong. Problem is all the damn computers in modern day vehicles. As much as I love my truck and will always sing its praises, the 1970 Chyrsler Newport I use to own NEVER threw a computer code at me. It just started and ran. No computers, no drama. Give me a 4bbl carb and 383 cubes any day! Good luck guys.

Now that the talk is moving to bad software and electronic sensors not being compatible with engines I am restating my post from last month. While electronic gizmos are fun they offer more chances for failure. Hopefully the new program they're offering you will help. Too bad they didn't get it right the first time. It kinda gives all of us MOPAR owners a bad feeling.

By the way, in CT if a new vehicle under 24 months old is in the shop for the same problem a certain number of times or out of service for a certain number of days, the state's lemon law kicks in and you can make a claim for a new vehicle. Anything like that there?

I guess I missed my point. Carol Shelbys statement turned out to be very wrong.

Don't sell yourself or him short. There's a bit of truth to it. While I guess it's wrong to say NEVER will work with engines, they sure do tend to be touchy with vibrations, moisture, etc. I realize that there are millions of engines out there with sensors, but cars ran just fine without them years ago. Shelby wasn't so far off the mark.

Rscaletti, My MIL light went out and the turbo seems to be working normally again. The dealer did not say anything about not driving the truck. They said they will call when the update is available. One suggestion, use the Exhaust Brake (see other postings on this). I did this after the light came on. I believe that this helped.

Thanks for the response. I don't have the MIL light, just the P2262 in the display. Definitely not normal performance. With 4 guys in the cab and unloaded, no trailer, the truck is a dog.

I turn on the EB every time I start the truck and only turn it off in towns where it is prohibited (there are several here in Southeastern PA. ) In general, I run the truck pretty hard as well.

I guess I should take it in and have them look at it. I just know from previous dealer experience that the response I get will be half right and half BS!

The new software is available today, The newest software revision pn# ends in "AU" The tech won't find it if they are searching service bulletins, the bulletin doesn't exist yet, but the program is there. They have to Browse for the new file. It's supposed to change the duty cycle of the turbo actuator and the EGR operation, and some other changes that really weren't explained

good luck guys
