Bd Diesel Super B quickest spooling in its class will support 425 rwhp alot more than your ez and 275's will provide. Extremely durable turbo and comes with a warranty I have never had an unhappy customer out of the 30+ I have sold

I love to tow with the B1-2, EDM3's and Comp. Pushing 20k GCW over the Grapevine and stayed under 1300* about 45lbs boost on Comp level 3x5.

Two points:

An adjustable box gives you the option of 100+/- hp when you want it, off when you don't. Great for the daily racing/driving versus towing heavy.

The B1 series and Super B turbos are both Schwitzer turbos, right? Any differences? They are pricier but have a GREAT reputation for strength and longevity (knock on wood!)

The more research I do on this subject the more confused I become. I am now torn between 3 turbos so I am turning to my friends at TDR for help.

Background: My goal is to install a turbo for towing, sometimes very heavy, that will allow me to run Mach 1. 5 or Mach 2 EDM’s (If Mach 2’s are an option for towing heavey) with an EZ or Comp in EZ mode and stay as cool as possible while not pushing the limits on boost for my stock head gasket.

I am seriously considering one of the following 3 turbos:

1. Piers HX35 with 14 cm housing.

2. Holset hybrid turbo with 14 cm housing from High Tech Turbo.

3. JR Adkins Shwitzer turbo.

Questions:

1. The High Tech Turbo has the wastegate set at 30 lbs. I am sure the volume of air is higher that my current turbo but is this enough boost to keep me cool? Would I use the boost elbow with my EZ with this turbo?

2. For those running the Piers HX35, what is the wastegate set at on this turbo? Would I use the boost elbow with my Edge EZ with this turbo?

3. Does anyone have any experience pulling a load with the Shwitzer turbo?

Pro’s and cons as I see them:

1. Piers HX35 is proven, it will bolt directly to my stock setup with no major exhaust work needed.

2. High Tech Turbo will also bolt directly to my stock setup but I haven’t heard from anyone that currently uses this turbo.

3. JR Adkins turbo sounds like it will flow a lot of air but as far as I know, this is a new turbo. When I am on the road with a load I want reliable proven parts. This turbo will require modification to the oil return line from my turbo and a B1 downpipe.

I really appreciate everyone’s help in selecting a turbo for my needs.

I pulled a new customer fifth wheel from northern Indiana to Seattle-Tacoma with a 14 2cm and it wasn't big enough. I burned the compressor housing on my HX-35 14 so bad it turned dark brown from running that thing outside it's mapwidth. Stock HO injecters, too.

Better listen to KYLE4 and get that BD Super B. That's a 16 2cm housing on that thing. Nice and big.

Brian.

Given your information I would seriously consider the Super B.

The other option I would look at is the Dodgezilla Hybrid with a 14cm housing, similar to the High Tech Turbo mod but you get a complete brand new turbo with a little bigger compressor wheel than the HTT.

IMHO the PDR 35, although a great little turbo, may fall a bit short of your needs.

Schwitzer based turbos (TAD, Piers from TAD, Super B, Adkins all are based on the Schwitzer turbos). They are not a new turbo, many iterations have been used and abused. They are known to be some of the toughest turbos around.

I have the middle exhaust housing, the B1-2, running with EDM3 injectors, Drag Comp, 4" exhaust and BHAF. I pull a 12k toybox with another quad in the bed of the truck, I estimated 20k on my last trip to Baja in Feb05, it worked great. The Comp allows you to turn 100+/- HP on/off. I came north over the Grapevine with the Comp on 3x5 and EASILY kept 60mph, never passed 1300* EGT (2000RPM 5th gear with 37"tires and 3. 54 gears). The only time I had to lift for EGT was after I got boxed in behind a semi, I couldn't floor it to get back up to speed.

The only other config I had was stock HX35, stock injectors with the Comp. Held its own well, but not like this!

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Schwitzer turbo, pricey but I was looking for the reliability as well. In fact if (WHEN) I go twins, I'll add another Schwitzer B2 or BigBrother to this one.

The Bank's Powerpack (oh God... ..... :{ )

Saw about 32-35 psi ALL across the country, but when I hit Snoqualmie(sp?) near Seattle in July, WHOOOOO!

I put this Piers HX-40 16 on, jeez i could'a saved myself a lot of trouble. I upgraded injectors and I STILL can't keep heat in the engine!

While this is a fairly new turbo that JR is releasing in his line modified to his spec's, Beast2B is very correct in saying that Swhitzer turbo's have been around a LONG time. I have talked at length with JR about this turbo several times, and I am anxiously awaiting mine to get here so I can quit babying my truck (WAY to much fuel for a stock turbo :-laf ). I know that TDR member Chris Lawson (clawson) is running one of these on his daily driven 2500 5spd and the way JR talks he is running more fuel than I am! JR is thoroughly convinced that unless you decide to go past 475HP this will be the last turbo you have to buy. I don't know for sure if Chris has towed with this turbo yet, but I will include his post on his thoughts of this turbo below. I do know one thing, the only person I know harder on stuff than Chris Lawson is JR Adkins. The only Chris has been doing is :D & Oo. since he got his charger... . now I just want mine! :{ For your mod's that you are talking about Mach 1. 5'-2's and a EZ or Comp I think this turbo will do you extremely well for a very reasonable price.

Many of you know J. R. Adkins. He has come up with what i would call the best single out. I have installed it on my 98 12v. I have pdr370's custom fuel plate(Full Foward), laser cut dv's, 4kgsk and a few more mods. With this turbo in 5th gear at 105 mph i my exhaust temp is only 1250. I have had this turbo for a few weeks now and absoluetly love it. I have rode in many trucks with modified 40's and this turbo puts all of them to shame. I currently have 2 guys around here wanting this turbo, it spools up like a hx35. I have ran mine to 50psi many times :D but would say that 50+ is dangerous on this turbo and 50 is probably pushing it.

It is much less than compareable turbos. Very comparable to the ht2b but seems to spool even faster than that.

You will not be dissapointed!!! Oo.

Chris
