Hello fist my issue is a odd one. Have they ever made a hx40 with a silencer ring?I have a situation where when u get into the throttle it sounds like the airbox pops or is burping with air will do it at 42 psi or even 22. It did it before with stock one when i Was at the track during a burnout and snapped my foot but thats was because i snapped my foot off. But now it does it under med throttle in od and with the fuel box on its bad. Could it be the blue box and did it with the old style blue box so i swapped it for a comp now i have the fuel management system in and its here not sure if it has anything to do with it just put 1000 miles on yesterday and its so damn annoying. So the setup I have is a hx40 kwikspool12cm with silencer ring, and had have had a stock35 and a pdr on it thanks any way to tell if i got something else instead of a 40. Thanks for your help anyone

No guru but I'll give you a little input anyways. To the best of my knowledge, the silencer ring was a Dodge thing. I do not know of any other Holset turbo that uses it. As far as the noise you're describing... the only thing I've ever experienced is the "bark" that happens when you reverse the turbo when coming off the throttle during a high boost situation. Other than that, just check all your boost connections because I've heard many reports of strange noises from those being loose. One more thing... I'd probably give your turbo a visual inspection. Look for anything obvious and check for excessive play in the rotor (bearing). Good luck and let us know when you get an answer.

Kurt told me the HX-40 does not have the silencer ring. Maybe this is your problem. I didn't think you could even install it on the HX-40.

Popping noises can occur when the turbo reverses direction. This happens when you are into the throttle and you get out of it in a hurry. This can be very bad because the shafts on the turbos can break. :eek:This should not happen on a strock truck but with enough mods I have heard that it happens. Still does not sound like your condition.

DSiemens,

Massdiesel has said that the noise occurs during accelleration. Otherwise I would think its just Barking. It has occured with several different combos of fueling and Turbo combos. I wish we could hear it in person. I thought maybe it was a blown boot but he has pressure checked it also.
