turbo housing bolts

My 2001. 5 is in the shop getting a BD exhaust brake put on. They just called to tell me of a delay in finsihing the work due to the improper bolting at the factory with their air guns which resulted in misthreading the bolt and resulting bolt break. Anyone else have this experience?

"One of our shop goons cross threaded the bolts putting it back together and we stripped out all the threads"

Any shop goon who comes up with a phrase like that obviously has panges of guilt that are deeply rooted in the innerself!!!

I hope the shop is paying for their screwup because they are the ones who cross-threaded it. There isn't enough room to properly have any kind of good angles for an air gun... there simply isn't!



If a bolt broke,all they would have to do is take the brake back off and drill out the broken bolt... no manifold is needed that I can see. Just a new bolt and another gasket.

saga continues

This AM when I check on the status, I am informed that the turbo wont hold pressure at 50 lb (I think) and the engine smokes heavily. They ask if I have had heavy smoke before even for just a few seconds. My reply was that this truck was purring like a lion and running smooth with no smoke when I brought it in. They were in the process of calling Dodge as they couldn't figure out what was happening last night. Now this is a Banks and BD qualified shop that does alot of performance work. So I don't want to lay blame on anyone yet. Just looking for viable explanations as to what the heck is going on before I get to irritated.

After rereading all the posts I must concur with Sam and Mike. That sure bites that some lyin' dog can't admit his screwup and make the appropriate correction(s) that is/are satisfactory to the customer.

I must admit there are certain jobs which I feel are better left to the experts. This being said, when I take my vehicle to a shop for something beyond my knowledge or skill level, I'm usually right there along side the worker bee. I know stuff can happen and when I see something being done which could lead to a problem, I speak up!



IMHO, I'm with all the others who would much rather purchase the proper tools and perform the work myself. Even if it takes me twice as long to accomplish.

I'd like to get a BD exhaust installed and didn't know there was a local place to do it.



Although now with your problem with them...
