I am trying to replace my 12 cm turbo housing with a 16 cm one that I purchased from Auto Wurks. The new one and the old one look very different. The old one (which I am having trouble removing) seems to have mechanical "stuff" hooked to it that the new one doesn't. My Chilton manual shows a picute of the new one so I don't know how to proceed. Any help would be appreciated :) Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention it is on a 95 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 if that is needed. I am actually writing this for my husband who is out hammering away :)

... If I remember right the 16cm2 does not have the waste gate. I think that is the mechanical stuff you are seeing. Also the exhaust pipe well have to be moved to fit the housing.

Some body jump in here and help me out. Am I right or wrong?

Mine now has the 16 cm2 and it has no waste gate. Goes strong and does not need one I guess.

Yes, that mechanical stuff on the back of your old 12cm^2 housing is the wastegate that limits the maximum boost pressure. Your new 16cm^2 housing does not have the wastegate because it is larger, and would take a heck of a lot of fuel and some other changes on your engine to create too much boost.

If you are having trouble removing your housing don't fret , this can be a real bear of an operation. I always soak the housing good around the bearing carrier and all of the bolts way before I start trying to separate them. Now I also use a small MAPP gas torch to heat the housing around the area where the two parts meet and then break out the hammer. No matter what anyone tells you, in most cases, you will have to hit it hard to get the thing apart. But remember, you have 1K in your hands so be gental and aggressive at the same time :D

Good luck!

Oh, do not forget to remember which way the old housing was on the turbo so that when you reassemble the thing it lines up and fits right. :p

Thanks

Thanks to you all -- I finished my project with success and it lowered my EGT's about 200 degrees and lessedned the black smoke to almost non-existent.

thanks again.
