Hey Guys,

I was browsing around Ebay and found this Y2K Dodge for sale... look at the color of that turbo... has that thing been run hot a couple of times or is it just me? Why else would the turbo be that funny color?

Thats what happens to the clear coat when it carmelizes due to high heat. It's pretty typical to see this on trucks that do a lot of heavy hauling. The engine spends more time at high boost, which means the compressed air leaving the turbo is HOT--like 300-400°F. It literally cooks the clear coating.

LOL WOW! That is by far the brightest one I have seen yet... YIKES! Not to mention it has a goose in the bed too, so the hard pullin might be true. Would you guys stray from one with a turbo that color? or buy in confidence?

Mine was that color.......

And worked like a champ. The intercooler takes care of the heat build up fairly well. I would not worry about it. The trucks been used for what is was made for.

Lots of screw-ups in this auction. .

For example, the vehicle profile at the top says it is an auto, then right below it, it says it is a 5 speed. Then at the bottom of the page it says the transmission has just been replaced. At 70k miles on a 5spd? Seems fishy doesn't it to you guys?

I usually raise an eyebrow at auctions that have screw-ups in them...

Mine isn't quite as dark as that one, but it is gold. I've noticed it more on the 2001 auto trucks - maybe the smaller turbo? I attribute it to towing.
