Getting "bright lighted" all the time

06 flatbed and tail lights

Hey folks, got a couple questions.

1-How do I know what trans is in my '06 LWB automatic?

2-Same for the rear end.

3-Whats up with the turbo lag from a standing start? What will decrease this lag time? Seems to take forever to spool.

4-Anyone know what could possibly leaking oil up above and in front of the pulley that comes off of the front of the engine?

transmission = 48re

rear + AAM 11. 5

not sure about the any lag issue with the 06's havent driven one

not sure what pully ur talking about there are several on the front of the engine... . there wer some issues on the earlier truck with the valve cover not being tight enough...

You are right the truck almost just sits there from a stop light. When I leave work I have to make a left hand turn and cross two lanes of traffic and the delay makes the exit much more dramatic than it needs to be. It's almost like the engine makes no power until the turbo spools up. Once it does come up, about three seconds, it pulls hard. I have no issues with anything else about the drivetrain but this. Even passing on my ywo lane country roads is fine. Just let me get this three tons of steel and plastic moving just a little bit faster than a Honda Civic pulling a traval trailer off a stop light.

The lag sounds pretty normal to me. Fact is, there isn't much power until the turbo starts to spin and all turbo diesel trucks act like that, all the ones I have owned anyway.

The one interesting part is the "When I leave work" comment. I do not know this for sure but I think the "600" trucks from cold must have a safety feature(or not so safe for the driver) that keeps power down until the truck has warmed up a bit.

After snowmobilling I get in, fire up the truck and move the trailer so we can load up. Most times, if I don't let it run a while, I get no power, a bunch of smoke and very little movement. Can anybody confirm that there is a temp threshold safety for the engine or trans?

Once warmed up though, you are going to have lag. The auto trans, with its loose convertor makes this worse. It is like a big slingshot, lots of rpm and noise, no movement, then bang, away it goes. You could very likely fix most of that with an upgraded convertor and valve body. It would put the power down sooner, load the engine harder and spool the turbo more quickly. Too bad you can't get it done for much under $2000. :(

1-The pulley I am talking about sits right at the bottom front of the motor, between the motor and the fan.

2-Would an after market air intake make the lag a little smaller?

Thanks

If you would take your truck over to Industrial Injection in Salt Lake City and drop it off for a day or two, it might be improved a bit.

I just took my rokktech off cause it killed my fuel economy...

Yep apples and oranges... ... ... Cdycksman has an 06 and I have an 06, I see you have an 03. I know the newer trucks are even more emission compliant, translated the 600/610 series engines have timing that is more retarted than the older trucks.

I think the Rokktech is a great mod for the newer trucks for this very reason. Then again I could be wrong, but I do know one thing for sure... ... this mod works better than I ever thought on my truck. :D

On my 05 I did a genos garage muffler delete pipe and a afe intake system with torque tube. It was like I had a new motor without touching the motor. Turbo lag was gone. The stock muffler chokes off the engine. Dodge was worried more about noise reduction than performance.

I think the lag could also be due to emissions controls. They don't want the trucks to smoke so it doesn't fuel hard off idle. Try a Smarty, that will fix your lag.
