I just installed a Diesel Turbo Life Saver from Geno's. I use it in conjunction with my High Idle Kit (Practical Solutions Diesel) as a delay to keep motor running at a safe high idle to keep the cab cool in my absence and for turbo cool down.

Just thought I would let everyone know the two items ARE compatible and do not interfere with one another.

Great for keeping the wife cool as we launch/recover the boat and are in and out of the truck. Also keeps the groceries from thawing and the cat from melting (Yes, he likes to ride in the Cummins and is a very good passenger!)

Installation was really easy... . just need to get the alarm interface now so the alarm system will arm after shutdown.

I love the looks on people's faces as you walk away from the truck with it running at high idle... . then they look shocked when it shuts down all by itself!

Still looking for a creative place to mount the kill switch.

Since nobody's answered this yet, I'll put in my . 02. I don't have one(yet), but I believe that they are a delayed shut down device to prevent the turbo cooking its oil and potentially damaging the bearings if shut down when too hot. With this activated, you can turn off the ignition, remove the key and leave the truck and it will continue to idle until the EGT gets down to a predetermined level(usually 300 or so post turbo). I still do mine the manual way, i. e. sit in the truck and watch the gauge.

Alarm Fix

I ordered a relay from Baker Auto (the makers of the DTLS) that will allow the alarm to arm on shutdown... 19. 95 cost).

I will let you know when I get it installed how it works.

I used the DTLS and High Idler all weekend at the boat ramp and on errands. I can set up to a 240 minute delay in shutdown if I have to. I use the high idler to keep it up in the safe level when I go more than 4 minutes of idling.

The wife likes stepping into a cool truck upon leaving for the boat or doing errands. I like the walk away aspect of cooldown (it gets the folks at work a bit surprised as you walk away with the thing running!!).

I have not taken the cat for a ride yet, but I am sure he will like having the AC on while I am in the petstore getting his chow! Groceries don't thaw as fast as they used to either.

This is a real nice feature (best to have both DTLS and High Idler together as 240 minutes of regular idling would be bad for the truck to say the least!).

The kill switch with the DTLS is nice as well... . mount it in a sneaky place and you have some added security! Won't start even with the key! Hide the switch well or gang it up with a second equally sneaky switch and you have even more peace of mind.

MacGreenie (not associated with either company but very happy with products and ease of install and doncha' just love gadgets like this?... blah, blah, blah... . )
