Did Air Dog Recently Reduce Purchase $

Does anyone know if there is a way to safely increase the boost that a stock turbo will produce?... I have been told by my dealer mechanic that the stock engine can hand more than the stock 32#'s i am getting. I would like to try and get it closer to 40#'s. Dont know very much about this stuff. still new to the diesel world

Need to fill out your signature so we know what truck year and mods so far.

With a lot of performance boxes or even downloaders the stock turbo will produce boost of 40+psi, but most will tell you that past 36psi the stock turbo is out of efficiency range and pushing a lot of hot air.

sorry... still figuring this out... thanks for the patients. if the stock turbo is capable of producing more, how would i go about adjusting it to do so?

Definately need to know the rest of your mods. My stock turbo lasted for quite a while. The stock turbo doesn't like mods that put it above 100 horses over stock. Almost any chip/tuner will do that very easy. I had a 90hp bully dog stacked with a tst powermax. My turbo was going bad from that combination, but then I added the bank big head wastegate actuator and I was building about 38-40 lbs. That only lasted for about 30 minutes and then I grenaded the housing between the compressor and the turbine. It was very cool, but expensive.

for the safest way, just add a boost fooler. Simple plug in, will give a little more boost with stock turbo and no other mods.

That is the reason i am asking the question. i would rather ask than try and mess something up. money is tight for me and i was trying to find out if there are ways to tweak a stock motor to do a little more till i can have the money to do what i want. eventually i would like to do the edge A2 Attitude, intake, and maybe a bigger turbo, but its all quite expensive. i already know i will have to change the torque converter, just another expense. This is why i was looking for you could say an easy way out to hold the erg. Thanks.

to the previous question. i would say leave your turbo alone for a while. build the stuff around it first. the things that make the turbo more efficient. bigger cold air intake, intake manifold, fuel pump, big fuel line kit, intercooler(optional) some form of pressure box (tst or edge ez) then even after all that, you still don't need to be messin' with the turbo untile you've addressed the transmission. a torque converter (as you mentioned is a must) then an imput and output shaft are in order. after all that you could safely ask more of your stock turbo or even add an after market one. a lot of guys go rushin' into excesive mods before researching what they are going to do to they're trucks. like you said. it's very exspensive. if you want to mod a cheap diesel. get a 12 valve. you can make obscene amounts of power on a stock turbo if the truck is equiped with a ve pump 96-98. 5 i know this is not what you may have wanted to hear but i'd rather see you disapointed now than blow somethin' up in yer truck and void your warrenty. good luck on your future mods

^^^ The 94-98 12 valves have a p7100 injection pump, not a ve pump. The ve pumps were on (correct me if I'm wrong) 12 valves from 89-93.

As for the turbo, only about 350 can be made with a stock turbo on a 12v, and thats pushing it. On a CR truck, 400 is very doable, and TDR member JasonCzerak is making 521hp with stock turbo. As for reliability at that level, I dunno.

You will not gain any power on a stock 06 but you will jepardize your warranty if you get caught. If money is tight leave it stock.
