I am installing a pyrometer pre turbo and i was wanting to know if you guys replace the gasket between the turbo and manifold.

Why are you touching the gasket? Drilling and tapping your exhaust manifold does not require removal of the turbo. Just a pen magnet put through the hole is all that is needed. What is left is blown out at startup. Metal fileings will not hurt the turbo. They blow right out.

I pull the turbo every time.

I don't know if it will or will not hurt the turbo, but I am not taking a chance. I have installed a bunch of pyro's and there is not that much to taking the turbo off and putting a rag down the hole. The rag will positively catch all the shavings, no worries.

Your not taking a chance, just drill the hole, tap it run a magnet in there for haha's and fire it up. Ive done dozens of these now,and unless you drop a major chunk of steel in there like a bolt it will go right thru with no problems. Taking the turbo off is like removing the head to change injectors, its a total waste of time and effort.

grease the bit

Put some grease on the drill bit and the tap and minimize the droppings... then as stated, use a magnet for the rest (if any). No sweat.

I am up to 9 EGT installs without ever taking a turbo off, you cant hurt a thing. The turbo is spinning far too slowly at startup to be any issue.
