so if i blip the throttle whilst going down the road and let off, i get this, air box ish noise, or maybe a turbo spin down noise that i have never heard before. i took off the air tube and checked the blades, they look fine and no play in the shaft that i can tell. it does not smoke or use oil. so im not sure what is causing the noise. thought gents?

Well, the silenceer ring has been removed, so its gonna have more intake air noise. And "blipping" the throttle isn't really something you want to do regularly due to it causing the turbo to bark...

When you suddenly put fuel to it, the wastegate is being commanded to full close to build boost/power, but in that time, you've dumped the throttle back to 0% fuel, so the wastegate is being told to go full open to unload boost... .

Its possible to create this condition with a bone stock truck, so with all your mods, I'm sure its even more pronounced when this condition occurs.

If you are concerned about turbocharger wear/excessive shaft play. You can get the radial and axial specs from Holset and check all dimensions using a magnetic base and dial indicator.

ya ill check the play again. the truck has had the mods for 2 years now, and i have never heard this noise before. sounds like a blow off valve is behind the dash. thanks for the info.

You may have a boost leak, you can make a "chuck" with a piece of rubber intake hose, 4" plastic pvc cap and a schrader valve. Remove your intake tube, attach the chuck/adapter to the turbo, and put about 25/30lbs of air pressure to the system. You should find the leak, if any, fairly easy.

When you blip the throttle the turbo makes a lot of boost when you let off the throttle quick the boost has to go some where so it goes backwards if you keep doing this it will unscrew the nut on the intake wheel not a good thing.

i dont "blip" it per say, just gun it then let off and coast, like if i was passing some on a street. i dont just go up and down the road nailing it and letting of the go pedal. checked the end play. dead on. no movement. so i guess im just hearing things. :)
