Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Turbo on its way out?

Changed my oil the other day, and had the intake elbow off to get at the oil filter. Checked my compressor wheel while I was at it. Had up and down play in it, almost to the point of touching the housing (this its had for a while though), but now it has a slight bit of in and out play as well. There was also a very light film of oil on the compressor housing too... just enough that if you ran your finger over it, you could see it on your finger. I have a BHAF, so I know its not air filter oil. Sound like my turbo is on its way out to anyone?

I've heard in and out play is a bad thing.

in and out play is bad, up and down is ok if it don't touch. some oil film is ok

Mine has up and down play as well, kind of got me nervous. You say in and out is the bad thing to have?
