I always see turbos mounted with the shaft parallel to the ground. Can they be mounted at angle? Or even perpendicular?If not I assume it is a lube issue?

they can be mounted with a SLIGHT angle if space constraints require it, but they really should be mounted parallel. It's a lube issue. more specificly a lube drain issue.

YEP! You could probably put it (them) perpedicular to the ground but one must make sure the oil drains properly back to the pan.
 
Thanks for the info. I am getting ready to slice the center section with the wire machine and see how the passages are done.
