When you guys say you trashed 2 hx40 turbos you mean that the shaft broke because the nut backed off right. I've heard that from others. My first 40 I cracked the exhaust housing when I blew the motor. Antrim had nuts machined and pinned through the shaft and nut to prevent that. Thats the trick they do to all the big rig turbos that are used for pulling and high boost applications.

HX-40 #1 which was a quick-spool version which "popped" at 38 psi at the top of the local test hill. My truck is heavily fueled with a cam and ported head. This particular HX-40 spooled wicked fast, so fast in fact that my timing slipped at one point. It was great while it lasted. The shaft did not break but the bearings were toast. When it failed it did make a popping noise followed buy the sound of the compressor wheel hitting the housing. . not a good sound.

HX-40 #2 had the 18cm housing. On my way to MayMadness while towing my 5th wheel, I noticed a "slightly different noise" while running through the gears and then about 50 miles later I started to notice blue smoke out the exhaust  Pulled over and checked the end and axial play in the turbo found the bearings in it shot :{ Needless to say I didn't make it to MayMadness and had one he!! of a towing bill, not to mention the cost and inconvenience of getting yet another turbo while on the road several hundred miles from home.

Since then I've been running a B-1 turbo with no problems at all. These turbo's are tough (my wife has Barked the SHAT out of it while towing). Still going with about 60K miles on it :D
