Turbo Question?

I just noticed that the fresh air side pinwheel from the WH1C turbo that came on my 1995 non-Dodge 6BT is larger than the Dodge WH1C that I am currently using and the Dodge HX35 turbo that I also have. The tag was melted from a fire so I can't check the part number.

How do you measure the pinwheel? When I measure across the back side I get approx 83mm on the original and 78mm on the HX35.

You probably have an HX35 from a newer 24 valve cummins, they use a smaller 54mm inducer and older HX35's and WH1C's have a 56mm inducer. The newer HX35 would have a smaller exducer as well, thats the part you measured. The inducer is the part where the blades protrude out. Tell me, does your HX35 have 7 blades on the inducer? The WH1C should have 8, but older HX35's also have 8 blade inducers.

You are correct about the wheel size. I wonder why they made the later models smaller. The HX35 is from a 1999 2500. I just ordered a 60mm 6 blade wheel and housing for it.
