ok members tell me how bad is the prognosis? 02 2x4 20k miles, removed the rear turbo return port plug and it went into the pan. will it settle to the bottom and not be a problem or will i have to extract it ? If extraction is in order does the transmission have to be removed or will the pan drop low enough to remove the plug and replace the gasget?,,#@$%!,:{. Help K>E>

I dropped a bolt in a transmission when I was a kid and on cold days starting out once in a while it would get picked up and go thru the gears. Maybe not apples to apples, but I would get it out! Remove the drain plug and fish around with a wire a bit.

If there's enough room you can fish through the hole it fell into with a magnet and maybe get it out. Otherwise, Forrest's idea sounds promising.

These engines have a deep sump to hold all that oil. Forget about the plug. The oil pickup also has a screen on it.

Cant visualize how this happened but I would agree with all the other posts about 95%. My luck, I would not worry about oil pickup, I would worry it could some how jump between rotating mass such as crank journal and block or rod and crank. I know it is a LONG shot, but still a real possibility. If it were me, I would get it out. If it went in, it will come out. (Much easier said than done)
