Turbo Question

Has anyone ever thought of buying or has purchased a used turbo for an upgrade? BD/II something along those lines.



It sounds strange to udder those words, but I am curious if one checked out OK and was significantly cheaper than a new one what would be the harm.



I'm sure someone as done an upgrade and then went bigger or multi, then they were left with an extra turbo.



Any thoughts...

Watch the classifieds, there are quite a few that sell second hand for those reasons you stated.

I can tell you, it is a crap shoot getting a good used turbo. I am 1 for 2. Bought both through different TDR members.



The PDR 40 I had was good when I bought it.



The 3rd gen HTT 64 I bought, supposedly had 10k miles, as was told it was good. Bearings were toast. Excessive end play and wheel to housing contact. I think it was over boosted. Had HTT do a rebuild, and housing changes for use on my 2nd gen.



All said and done, I spent about as much as having bought a new turbo. I already knew the housing needed to be changed. Was ****** that I had to have it rebuilt.

I sure hope someone pipes up with some good stories about buying a used turbo.
