Oli filter questions revisited.

Instead of investing in a propane setup.

You should use that money towards a cam from Piers or DD.

That way you could run a larger turbo and suffer less lag.

I think propane is dangerous, more so than Nitrous.

Good luck

Yep, I'm with Justin on the drugs. Money better spent on a camshaft or twins.

550hp, I'm guessing HX50 hybrid or something from the mysterious Pius lineup or B1 Bomber.

At Vegas we know Richard was about 850 H. P. by his numbers on the strip but only dynoed at about 570 H. P. + or - I can't remember the exact numbers. Nathan was down over 100 H. P. and I was down 100 H. P. We believe the problem was due the restrictive exhaust tube we were required to use, that is why Richard didn't try to rerun on the dyno.

One of the most interesting posts I have read in a long time.

This is why, measly 500 hp twin trucks are not skeered to race 600-to 800 hp single chargered trucks with trailers up mountains.

Usable hp is where its at. Big numbers on a dyno are fun and give us something to do when the tracks are too wet, but it seems that a lot of dyno number results have been used to sell parts, when the numbers are not really applicable to the street.

Maddog quite possibly may have the fastest, most usable hp truck on the message boards. Very impressive. His dyno numbers have fluctuated by a few hundred hp, but his track times get better and better.

Further proof, that the dynos he has used, are not that accurate.

If he would have tried to tune from the dyno results, he may have lost speed, time, power in the real world.

I think it would be foolish to buy a turbo based on dyno results only.

BTW, I don't sell turbos, nor recommend anyones turbo(s). :)

Dynoing is a means to tell changes in power mods. Yes it is fun to have some big numbers. But I have been able to get higher numbers on three types of dynos just by driving techniques. On Mustang dynos tire slippage is a concern and on the dyno jets how fast the turbo comes on has a big effect.

IMO a dyno is the most consitant measure of HP. Drag racing has alot to do with traction and suspension set up as well as which trans is being run. And sled pulling is another place where the set up and weight of the truck and tires is as important as how much HP.

Having a independant dyno operator on the same day run trucks all the same would tell everyone where they stacked up against one another.

Wade, on my 2000, with DD3's, DD RaceUFM, Piers SuperTurbo(HX35), I hit 440HP on DD's dyno. Then cameback with same DD3's, RaceUFM, DD's HX-40 and DD's cam and did 475HP on #2, and 538HP with Nitrous at last years May Madness. I have the printout to back it up, too.

This was with my DTT trans with 93% TC. That truck did everything, and very well.

Greg Boardman's 01. 5 did 429HP with DD2's, DD's RaceUFM, DD's HX-40(off of my 2K) at Escondido several months back.

My 03 did 396HP on that same dyno on the same day with DD2's and the DPM(EZ) and 5 inch exhaust.

DD's Cam, HX-40 and DD3's make a sweet combination.

The 40's will do more than you think.

XcumminsX-propane is harder to work with than nitrous. Propane raises the cylinder temps and nitrous actually lowers temp. If you had a choice I'd rather use nitrous. You can pick up . 8 in the quater mile using nitrous. But with all that said the basics are the best way to go. Get the main pieces to the puzzle (cam, head work, turbo(s), injectors, intake and exhaust) then look at NO2 or water/methanol injection. :D

Thanks Fred.

Circumstances changed from when I started this thread and now I have a 35/40 hybrid on there. Will dyno soon. It HAS to be close to 450 on my dyno--it's WAY more than the 415 I was used to.

For the price of a tweaked 40, there are many options out there for chargers which will flow a little more air and have bigger shafts. That's where I was headed and may still.

I'm helping R&D some mods for the 35/40 I'm running. I'm really impressed with it right now.

But keep the thread a pumpin'...
