Have a TST#10 w/ K&N cone & straight exhaust.

No other mods are planned for the NEAR future.

Removed entire turbo & examined.

Turbo wastegate & actuator have definately taken a BIG dump:D

Its time for a rebuild or possibly a different turbo setup.

Don't really need more power but could use less heat (high altitude).

What are some recommendations? Price is a factor.

I need to get at least 150degs drop in EGT at FT w/ a different turbo setup to justify the additional cost of a new setup. Hard to know what to do since everyone goes really big in the bombing dept. And what works in the big HP arena might not work in the little HP arena where I'm at & will have to stay for a few more years.

turbo reccomendation

Sounds like you would be best off with a Piers Modified hx35 with a 16cm exhaust housing on it.

If the turbo is OK except for the wastegate on the exhaust housing, you can save 150-200 deg. by replacing that 12 cm2 housing with a 16 cm2.

turbo is OK

Question from the ignorant...

Is the 16cm2 wastegated also? Or do I have an option?

Thanks

Mike

Mine is not waste gated. I don't know if there's an option, but I don't think there's a benefit to the waste gate on these.

Turbo stuff

The 16cm housings for the HX35 are not wastegated. You can run any housing you want with the PDR HX35. 12cm or 14cm which are both wastegated and the 16cm which is not.

Piers also has the HX35 with the 14 NON-waste gated housing. I have one. 40psi is about the max it will hit.

Turbo works quite well. EGTs did go down about 100 degrees. Biggest difference was in spool up and boost. My previous boost with the stock turbo was 34. I now hit 40 and 20 psi comes on like right now.

I talked w/ quite a few people regarding my turbo problem.

Only one guy was articulate enough to set me on the correct path & that was AL at PDR. Thanks to AL I was able to remove my turbo system, service it with a couple of new parts & reinstall it.

Never worked better! Thanks AL!

When my turbo goes completely south I would definately give AL a call to upgrade.
