So while trying to remove my turbo over the weekend to dirll and tap the exhaust manifold for a pyrometer with a power adder kit I found myself stuck.
Was only able to get 3 of 4 bolts out of the turbo. The bottom rear bolt was seized. Tried everything, soaking with PJB, Impact first 3/8, then a 1/2" impact, wouldn't budge.
Eventually tried heat (granted couldn't get serious heat on it too much rubber in close proximity). But again no go. All of them were a pain, but If i tried anymore on that last one, I was either going to round it off or break it off.
Just a very bad angle, couldnt get a socket on it clean without a swivel, but couldn't use an impact swivel, had to use a standard swivel, and the impact eventually ended two of those. Got a ratchet on it, but sheared off the extension with hand torque. Just can't seem to clear the waste gate arm/actuator to get a clean shot at the nut securely. Have to use a short socket and was making no progress except breaking tools.
Any recommendations. It looks like I am going to have to pull the entire exhaust manifold to get it out.
Not excited about that prospect.
