Turbo Temp MOnitor

Just my thoughts, but I had a 92 that I installed a temp monitor on and just two things surprised me. First how fast it turned the truck off at times and two how long it idled at other times before shutting down. So unless you have a pyrometer I suggest you do not guess as to when to shut it down.

Therefor I am installing one on my new 03 just as soon as I get some instructions that make it simple to understand. The ISSPRO that I purchased comes with general instructions but nothing specific to the 03 Dodge. Namely what wire is the ignition wire and where is the easiest place to locate it and hook in or how to hook in appropriately?

Also I put my pyrometer in pre turbo and I don't know about any one else but it took me an entire day to remove the exhaust manifold drill and tap it and reinstall it, standing on my head for most of the time. Except when I was trying to reach up from underneath the truck to extract bolts, nuts and what ever else. I am glad its over.

Any help on the rest of the hook up would be greatly appreciated.

CRumsey,

I'm going to be drilling & taping the exhaust maniold soon, but was planing on just doing in w/ it on the turck. Any reason you had to remove the manifold?

Although I'm not a fan of synthetic oil, one of it's big benefits is it's stability at very high temperatures. The key problem with turning the engine off while the turbo is hot is the tendency for normal oil to coke (or cook) in the turbo bearing housing. Synthetic oil is much less likely to cook.

Security interface

How do the various timers interact with the DC security system with the chipped ignition key? I have to admit that I've been bad about idling down, but old gasser habits are hard to break. But having fun breaking them. :D

Almost 1000 miles and loving it.

The reason I removed it to drill and tap was to make sure there were no metal shavings that escaped me and ended up eating the turbo. I know I have read of others who have not removed it but I thought i'd rather be safe than sorry. It seems to me if I am installing something to save my turbo I shouldn't do something that would jeopardize it. Just my $. 02 cents worth. Good Luck!;)

ISSPRO's catalog does state that the turbo temp monitor should monitor the post-turbo temp. However, at idle the difference in temperature pre and post will be very small, so in reality it doesn't matter.

CRumsey,

I recommend getting yourself the factory service manual. Volume 2 includes complete wiring diagrams.

I recently purchased an egt guage for my 2003. I know one person who put it on his 97 2 years ago and he hasn't had a problem. I just recently helped another person put his on his 97 and we held a high power vacuum next to the bit while we drilled to catch most of the shavings. He also is having no problem with his and that was over a month ago. As soon as mine comes in, I will be doing it this way also.

Why couldn't a person drill the hole w/ engine running? Seems this would blow all the chips out the hole & none would be able to fall in... ... ..... ???

I drilled mine without removing it. I didn't get many shavings out with a magnet either. I did mine over a month ago and haven't had a problem with the turbo.

I worried about that before ordering mine, too. I hoped that the security system only affected starting and not running--that turns out to be the case, as mine works fine.

I just posted the wires to hookup to in 2003s in this thread.

MGonske:

Thank you for the info on the TTM install. I have been asking about it for a couple of weeks and with your information I will go ahead and finish my install now.

Thanks again,

Carl Rumsey
