What are the benefits to removing the silencer ring in the turbo?

Where is it and how do you remove it? Any pictures of the procedure?

:D The only real benefit to removing the silencer ring is more turbo noise. Whether it's a benefit or not is your own personal choice;)

When you take the inlet tube off the turbo you will see a snap ring. Take the snap ring out and you can pull the silencer ring, it's just a little piece of tin. I used two screwdrivers, started one end of the snap ring out and gradually worked it around.

I don't have any pics but I'm sure someone does:)

I was able to find some pics by searching through the forums. I have removed the ring without any trouble. Thanks,

I removed mine and installed a amsoil air filter . I cannot describe how cool it is to listen to your turbo spool up and down . . AND LOUD . Or when your going down the hiway your truck will sound like a semi ... :D :D :D

I find the turbo whistle irritating especially on long trips, my ring stays in. I think a lot of folks that remove the ring end up putting it back in. Reinstalling the ring is where the problem lies, sometimes the snap ring bends doesn't fit right, make sure it is seated well. An escaped ring could sure do a number on your turbo.

I was threatened by my wife and both kids with bodily injury if I consider putting the ring back in. But this comes from a family that loves the sound of the straight 3" pipe. Also the kids are looking for extra work so that they can pay for my KwikKurt curved stacks:cool:

Way cool,,,,,,,,,,,,,
