Can anyone explain the performance gain or the reason to remove the silencer ring from the turbo?

Thanks,

Don Vizgaudis

Don;

Took the silencer ring out and made a test drive.

Pulled into the driveway and re-intalled it. Didn't get the snap ring fully seated and it came loose. Luckily it only touched the pinwheel nut.

Got the silencer & retainer installed properly and it will stay.

I also cannot take the whistle from the oiled air filters.

I want turbo diesel performance felt by the seat of my pants not the agony in my ears.

Opinions vary greatly

Like JohnE said, it's personal choice. The K&N and some AFE lits are pretty loud with it out, especially in the passenger seat.

With my Fleetguard, it was barely noticable.

Around the block won't push the turbo hard enough to hear a difference. Do a full throttle blast up to 70 or 80 and you'll hear a difference. That, or tow something at full throttle.

My already loud 2002 has the silencer out, Fleetguard BHAF, resonator and muffler gone. I'll probably go to a high performance muffler rather than the straight pipe to take the edge off the exhause noise at some point, but I'm enjoying the noise. :)
