I was wondering if taking out the ring in the turbo will make a air flow improvment. (make more power?) or does it just make the turbo louder :p

The turbo is stock. (see sig below)
 
What Charlie brown said. Supposedly Dodge requested the turbo be quieter so cummins put that in. Wont make much difference either way except whine from everything Ive heard.
 
There is something very pleasing to the ear when you are beside another brand x truck on an uphill grade and they look over at the truck listening and then later at a rest stop, they stop by and comment on how your truck sounds like a big rig as the turbo spooled up on the hill :D
 
If you look at the turbo where the silencer ring once was it's solid behind there. Removing the ring doesn't allow any more air to enter the turbo. But I do agree with the others it does sound great! That was the first thing that I done to my cummins when i bought it was take the ring out.
