Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Turbo Suicide

My 96 Dodge with the aurora 5000 turbo sheared all of the bolts out of the centersection of the turbo. Then the shaft bent, exhaust vanes came off, and intake vanes side bent. Turbo is nuttin but a conversation piece now. But the question why did this happen? I think it is because the motor is moving too much. Has anyone had this problem? There is not a lot of play in the intercooler lines and they held the turbo still while the motor pulled on the turbo. The motor mounts are both good. Wat would happen if i chained the motor to the frame to keep it from moving so much? Any info is greatly appreciated.

I have seen this happen before but it was in a big rig. What happened was the exhaust was not supported at the engine and when the power came up the engine would torque to the side and the exhaust pipe hit a cross member. It took a while of doing this (wear on the pipe wall as evidence) then the exhaust housing couldn't take the side loading anymore and snapped.

Not saying this is in fact happening to you but it's worth a look.

We have a Phat Shaft 71 which is a K31 turbo BUT with a dual wastegated turbine housing. (Just Released) This would help the over speed of your turbine wheel, which would eliminate most of these failures. Thanks
