I have a 2002 Dodge 4x4 auto with the stock HY35 Turbo. By swapping the 12 sq. cm exhaust housing off of a HX35 will I have the same performance as

swapping a complete HX35?

In other words, is the compressor side the same on both turbos?

Thanks.

No. The tubine housings are attached to the center section differently on the Hy & the Hx. With the Hy you're stuck with that tiny 9 cm housing.

Ok as darkhorse said they are attached differntly. The Hy has a band clamp that attaches the exhaust housing to the center section, where as the Hx has 4 bolts. Yeah sucks but if you find someone w/ a manual transmission or 94-96 year B motor that did a complete upgrade you could get there set up fairly cheap and add the 12 cm housing since they will have the 4 bolt pattern. Or you can buy a brand new set up w/ the 12 cm housing for not much more than you would pay to go w/ finding a used turbo.

I think he is asking about the difference between the compressor housings. Like cm2 and wheel size. I would like to know my self. I think they are the same, just different turbine housings.

Skub,

If you are trying to just swap turbine housings, then yea what they said ..... you can't do it.

QUOTE FROM DodgeRam.org

" The HY-35 and HX-35 are functionally equivalent under most engine loads, and the wastegates on both turbos are set for the same boost level. The HY-35 does not breathe as well as the HX-35 at higher speeds under a heavy load. The choke point of the HX35 is around 35psi; the HY35 chokes at about 29psi. "

So to further on your question Skub (if you don't mind), is the compressor housing the same size as the HX and are the turbine and compressor wheels the same? If not, how big are the wheels?

I think they are the same and the above quote would leave you to believe that they are the same, but I've never seen numbers on the subject.
