Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) turbo temp?

i have a BD X-monitor- trany temp-boost and exhaust temp. the exhaust temp probe is after the turbo. what would be the temp difference from preturbo temp. is there a set equation. should i move it to preturbo? after running the truck it never seems to go below 250* when i let it idle to cool off. some one told me about 300* was the difference, if thats the case i'm shuting it down at 550*. am i hurting my engine. I have the alarm set at 900*. i would appreciate your input. thanks robert

At an Idle the temps will be the same, the difference will be while you are under load.

The 300* difference is a guesstimate, when the engine is under load and there is a large pressure differential across the turbine (30-40 psi of drive pressure to almost ambient in the exhaust pipe). When pressure drops, so does temperature.



At idle, there is almost no pressure drop across the turbo, so the pre and post temps are about the same. So shutting off at 250* is just fine. So would 300* for that matter.
