I want to put a turbo timer on my truck. All I find online are timers made for rice rockets. Who makes a good, adjustable turbo timer for the CTD that has some sort of readout to show countdown times and status?

Use a quick up-date. I had posted the above information earlier but declined to make further comment till I had installed and tested the turbo timer. Well it came today and being I can't wait, I went ahead and installed it. It is a nice, simple , straight forward process. Only takes 10-15 minuets, there are three wires and were they go is easy to reach. the timer worked as stated and looks nice. I got the Grey, but they also offer black if you prefer. I think most people would be very happy with this product, it is a simple solution to a age old problem.

I had provided the above information before I had installed the timer. I wanted to forgo any conclusions until i had a chance to got it installed and tested. The timer came in today, and I had it installed in about 10-15 minuets. It is very simple and straight forward. There are only three wires to hook up and they are easy to access. The cool down timer works as stated and is very slick. It worked the first time and continued to work repeatedly as it should. I think most people could install this timer with ease, and would be very happy with it function. This cool down timer is a simple solution to a age old problem. Oo.

Another option is the Isspro turbo temp monitor. I've had one on my truck for almost 4 years and it works great. Instead of you having to set a time before shutdown it simply monitors the exhaust temp and shuts down at the temp that you set (factory set at 300 degrees). Installed as I have it the only thing you see is a switch on the steering column for an emergency shutdown. Cost is about $180 total. You can see details here - http://www.dieselpage.com/art1199tm.htm .

Oh well , if it not up to your "standard" when la-te-da, it does work and that is what I like. I think it looks right at home stuck to my dash. The trrbo time steve talked about is a nice one , but I don't think the price he gave includes the probes needed to function. I guess if the cheper one is too "ugly" for you, and the other to expense for you, you'll just have to sit in the cab and play titally winks, till it cool. I think toys-r-us has them.

Yes it is adjustable - by a potentiometer inside the case. So it's not something you'd want to change on a regular basis. That price does include the thermocouple, wire, switch, fuse, relay, etc that's required. Here's the price breakdown:

Purchased from DIS

ISSpro turbo temp monitor (R4130) $116. 64

K type thermocouple (R658) $27. 34

Lead wires (R660-10) $10. 29

Purchased from local electronics shop

R51-1D40-12F 40A-12VDC relay $5. 72

NTE5983 100V 40A Rectifier $5. 00

small plastic project case $2. 00

(to house rectifier)

2 automotive style fuse holders $1. 84

20A switch $5. 00

2 20A fuse (had on hand) ~$1. 00

10 gauge and 14 gauge wire $4. 00

--------

$178. 83

That rocks!

Especially the price. One could always change the knob or the housing and with a little creativeness, probably mount it in the dash or in the overhead console.

If it still doest trip your trigger, check out www.genosgarage.com

for a timer built especially for our trucks.

Is anybody else running one of these? I would like more feedback. Either post here or shoot me a PM.

Thanks, Jim

I have a turbo timer from GReady, but I'm having some trouble getting the wiring hooked up properly. The directions were lost in translation, so I'm playing with wires now. When I mess around with it occasionally I can get it to work, and it works great. Anyone know of a plug in harness for this kind of application? Once I get it to work, I'll post everything, pics etc.

I paid $100 for it... I belive they retail for $120.

www.jannettyracing sells Blitz turbo timers. I assume they have quite a bit of experience to get them functioning on the CTD's. They have a little more pleasing aprearance as well.

y-knot,

What wires does it connect to in the fuse box? I assume it energizes the ignition circuit via the fuse box? How are the connections made in the fuse box? With fuse taps? Are they the kind that push into the fuse slot with the fuse?

Yes they are made in the fuse box, one wire goes to something that is always hot. Like the power door locks, and the other wire to the ignition fuse. The third wire is a groud, if you want the protection of always having the emergency brake on, then it gets atached there, other wise just to ground.

y-knot, Thanks for the info.

Josh, which unit do you have. I found some install instructions while surfing around.

Duluth Diesel, you can use the timers made for the ricers. Some of the extra features may not work on our Cummins, but the timer function will still work fine. I did some checking and they all appear to be a very simple installation. Most only appeared to have 5-6 wires to hook up. Some seemed very affordable too. A couple of the Greedy units I found for well under $100. I have been contemplating the install of one of these for quite some time. The last thread I posted about these I cought some crap for wanting to install a ricer product on my CTD :) I never checked into the install before. I guess I should just bit the bullet finally. I still need to figure out how to make it work with my alarm.
