Well, I finally got my truck back together and running again with a set of twin turbos, a marine cam, ceramic coated pistons, copper head gasket, etc. , etc.

I wasn't satisfied with the twin setup so I removed them tonight and put the trusty ole HX-35 on so I could reliably drive to work this week and get a few easy heat cycles on the motor.

I go out for my test drive and the shaft on the HX-35 breaks.

Horrible white smoke out the tailpipe, intercooler full of oil and compressor wheel shrapnel.

Just rebuilt the motor due to damage from foreign objects and on one of my first test drives, I shell a turbo and have stuff flying back through the motor. I'm not sure how much more of this frustration I can take.

I'm going to have to seriously considering retiring this truck to use just as a toy and buying something reliable.

Thought I'd share.

UNHHhh - wasn't the Dodge/Cummins "reliable" before ya started bombing it? Pretty much ANY decent truck SHOULD be reliable if driven sanely and maintained properly - it's the BOMBING that frequently starts the problems!;) :D

Strick, I hear ya man. It sucks to break something every time you turn around, frustration just begins to describe it!! Stay with it, get a little beater of some sort and make that dodge a HOTROD!!!!!!!!!!

I hear ya strick... . been on roads like that too... . seems like one stupid bit of BAD luck after another! hang in there!

Chris, you got to keep the faith. I'm going to go down the road your on later this winter. Don't let short term failures slow you down.

Keep the FAITH.

Where did you get the copper head gasket? Where the heck is Cord Reynolds?

what kind of twin set-up did you have going?

Don~

Thanks for the support guys. This hasn't been just short term annoyances. My truck has been down more than it has been running since August of last year. Unbelievable!

Don,

I got the copper headgasket directly from the supplier. I've got a friend in industrial supply sales that can have them made ANY thickness, but I haven't got him a template yet. I should be able to get them much cheaper than the current $150-$200.

Cord is hiding away up around Waco. He came by the shop a week or so ago and reclaimed all his tools, but I haven't heard much from him. I know he broke 5th gear in his transmission and was going to tear it apart the next day to replace it. I haven't heard from him since then. I know he's just dying to get an automatic in that thing. He said he's tired of being just a dyno queen. He wants a new truck that he can compete with.

I'll tell you more about the twins when you hook me up with some REAL injectors. I'm tired of these measely 370's. I want to make some power. I want to start breaking trannies again. :) They are easier to rebuild and fix than motors.
